1,000 yard rusher

Before the season started, I was sitting around jamming with Miami Steve and we got to talking about this years Hawkeyes.

I said that if we had a 1,000 yard rusher that we would win the Big 10. Stevie shook his head like he always does at me, and said, "I don't know Boss Man, can we practice Ramrod one more time?"

Now, Robinson has 629 yards rushing with 4 games left, and Wegher who split time with him for a bit has 321. No doubt together they will eclipse 1,000 yards this week and will likely end up around 1,300 cumulatively.

Despite Wegher's struggles the past few weeks, you have to feel like he is at least good enough to make the defense respect the run.

The rest of this season lies on the offensive line making holes big enough for Wegher to be a factor. If they can do that, there will be no falloff from the Robinson loss.

Don't forget, Wegher has gained 100 yards this season in a game too.

Make the D respect the run enough that the play action pass is effective and the Hawks will continue to win.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go kick my own *** for releasing that last album... Roy was right when he asked if we should call the record Working on a Fart instead?

1000 yards isn't like it used to be. The team is playing 12 games now. That equates to around 83 yards per game for a runner. The combined 1300 is only about 108 yards per game for the running game. Not a lot of teams have a great record rushing for just over 100 yards per game. Rushing yards have been tough to get in some games but the coaches have stuck with the rushing game. And the defenses have had to respect it as the backs have clicked off some nice runs. The yards have come at the right time for the team this year. I think Rick's play at QB has not always been appreciated like it should be. Iowa doesn't have the greatest running game, though it does have some good backs though not producing high high numbers, and Iowa is still winning. And Rick has cut down on his interceptions to his credit. Just hoping this success continues. It's been so great so far.
