    Offensive Positives from NW Game

There were definitely some positives for the offensive. Showed signs of progress in the running game. Still some issues with the interior line play. Center and guards still having issues with coming off the double team on both pass protection and run plays to pick up blitzes/stunts and getting...

Are Wirfs, Jackson, Epenesa NFL Ready?

First the offensive line problems are not because of Jackson and Wirfs, they are mainly because of the guards. Their draft stock won’t be affected by that. Second, Epenesa is routinely doubled and chipped and yet even though he doesn’t have the stats, he still has been disruptive. Remember so...

    Rushing game

Just a few thoughts about the Michigan game and Iowa's rushing offense. The stat of only one yard rushing looks really bad and it is, but it is based on two, well really three things. First obviously the sacks accounted for negative rusting yards and two that created long yardage situations...

    OZ into the boundary?

This used to work pretty well for I This used to work pretty well for Iowa in the past, but if you now notice in games that the opposing defense will commit their strength to the wide side/formation strength and then Iowa will audible to run short side/weak side. Defense then will on the snap...

    92 vs. 2

I happened to look up the 1982 season for PSU when they finished 11-1. They played 5 top 15 teams including #2 Nebraska (W) #4 Alabama (L) and #5 PItt (W). This is a pretty typical schedule for them during their time as an independent. Also beat #1 Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.

    I'm calling it - Wadley 3rd round/Jackson 2nd round

The main negative I see for Jackson is he still needs work in zone coverage, especially cover 2. He doesn’t read pattern combinations well and that can put your safeties in a bad spot. Where he goes in the draft will depend on the team and their defensive coverage philosphy. For example probably...

Has anyone cared about Iowa football since 2010? minus Beathard's perfect season?

I would wonder then why you are still watching Iowa football games and also posting on here if you haven’t cared for 7 years.

Please disect the Dee's 28 point collapse

I think the D-line and LB's got tired. There were some blown coverages by the secondary. Hopefully with more game time the secondary will cut the mistakes out. Coaches need to subsititute the D-line at the start of series against teams that run no huddle hurry up offenses. So you don't get...

Wisky's B1G West hopes just took a hit....

Pretty sure in this day and age coaches minimize risk of injury as much as possible. At some point you have to simulate game conditions as much as possible. Remember the quote by the Nebraska D coordinator that Iowa practices must be blood baths because of how pysical they played.

Kirk Ferentz Downplays Stanley Being Listed No. 1 in New 2-Deep

I never said I was a perfect coach. Thanks for reaffirming that you believe that you have all the answers and your opinion is the only one that is correct. Sorry for questioning your expertise.

Kirk Ferentz Downplays Stanley Being Listed No. 1 in New 2-Deep

I know plenty about human behavior. If you want to compare resumes, I spent 35 years education and 28 coaching football. I love the coaches playing favorites argument. Coaches want to win. If they play someone they like it is because they do the things that the coach teaches and expects.

Kirk Ferentz Downplays Stanley Being Listed No. 1 in New 2-Deep

So saying that two players are close in ability is equated to coaches being unable to evaluate talent. You obviously have never coached. Many times it comes to a literal flip of a coin to choose a starter.

Jake Butt and Future Bowl Games

So that's four more games added to the season for teams making it to the championship game. Talk about increasing the risk for injury.

When does the upgrade in facilities start paying off?

I believe the team moved into the new facility in January of 2015. So this past season's freshman class would have been the first to possibly have been influenced by it. And the team itself that may have benefited by the facility's better atmosphere for training the team. Give it some time...

Howe: 9 B1G Games, ISU Paint Iowa in Corner for Non-Con Contests

I really find it interesting how all of us Iowa fans keep trashing us playing Iowa State saying we have nothing to gain by playing them. How soon we forget that when the rivalry was renewed in 1977 it was Iowa State that was the winning program and Iowa was the lowly sucky school. If we want the...

Howe: 9 B1G Games, ISU Paint Iowa in Corner for Non-Con Contests

Iowa is not going to give the games versus Iowa State. It is a huge money maker for both schools. Sold out stadiums and tons of money spent in each town. As far as scheduling other Power 5 schools on top of playing Iowa State, it's not going to happen. Iowa keeps getting crap for a "weak"...

    Kinnick Sideline Advantage Taken Away.

Were those seats held by season ticket holders? If so what happens to them? They are crappy seats because you can't see. In all not a bad idea to make more room on the sidelines for player safety sake.

Blew out my knee on that crappy turf.

    Kinnick Turf Replacement?

Iowa got rid of real grass because they were having issues with it not growing/recovering well. This is very common for stadiums were the field is below actual ground level. That is why they went to turf. With regard to the logo, I believe Barta said that the turf is being replaced after this...

    Wirfs wins state wrestling title

He'll have 30 pounds on him by fall. He cut a lot of weight to wrestle at 285. He moves really well for a big kid. I see him being a left tackle. Good height, arm length and feet.
