My guess is he was welcomed back but that there would not be a scholarship for him. And he probably already has a degree or can get one from Iowa soon, so it makes more sense to try to get a scholarship somewhere else, have fun playing in games, and pick up a masters for free.

Seems like a super nice kid who is a hard worker and absolutely should not be occupying a scholarship spot for a new staff trying to build a roster.
