I will add that players are a reflection of their coach. Fran lost composure and got T’d up...the game started to unravel there. Instability in leadership leads to instability in play
Lots of talk about O-line issues, and no doubt there are some. But even the best o-lines allow the QB to face pressure. Receivers will not always be open. The solution is not to take a sack or throw the ball away - the solution is to MAKE SOMETHING POSITIVE HAPPEN. Is it better to have the 30th...
The points made in this thread notwithstanding, I don’t see how the leader of the athletic department can be fired when arguably the four most visible sports in NCAA D1 athletics (men’s/women’s BB, wrestling, football) are ranked nationally (Football could be back in the rankings this week and...
Agree100%. Physically, Young resembles the type of back that historically has had success at Iowa. Strong, power runner a la Greene, Coker, and Weismann. We’re set up for that type of bruising runner, so why isn’t he the featured back?
This game wasn’t on him solely. We didn’t have an answer defensively. That said, he’s not a difference maker, which is a necessary component of an elite team.
Agree with the hold comment. Perry did have an arm while riding, but his hold was getting pretty high (up to Evans' throat). To me that's crossing the line between a tough ride and being dirty.
I'm not in the business of questioning a man as credentialed as Tom Brands, but I couldn't help but...
It doesn't matter what kind of experience it is..."mop up" or otherwise...game experience is valuable. Not many can come in after two years of not taking one single live snap and be effective.
And it wasn't just the interception. The false start penalty was major and Ferentz admitted that in...
The prototypical, grinding Big Ten style is no longer effective in today's college football landscape. This is evidenced by Weisman's 200+ yd game against CMU which still ended in a loss. Teams must have a versatile and athletic QB, 1-2 other really solid skill positions on offense who pose...
Trying to justify not jumping on the ball there...is it possible that because of the DOG penalty that the hands team thought perhaps the ball had to go 15 yards rather than 10? Maybe they were just going to let it go out of bounds. IDK, I'm fishing here I know. Just can't understand that. It...
My $.02:
1) Vandy's style is not effective in the current college landscape. The most successful QB's seem to be the ones who are multi-dimensional...they can hurt a team in a variety of ways. Among others, in our league these QBs are the likes of D. Robinson, and in recent years Persa from...
By and large I thought we looked pretty good today outside of Ballweg. Please tell me there is someone else there. I'm sure he's a nice kid but a close match against Cornell and losses to Baker and ICCC are not good indications of the Big 10 schedule. Carew?
Opponents: Able to convert 3rd down and keep drives alive because they more often than not have 3rd and short yardage.
Hawks: Not able to sustain drives because lack of conversion on 3rd down. Attribute this to consistently having 3rd and long due to running draw plays on 2nd and long...
I'm not sure if this has ever been addressed on this site, but I noticed something today about Vandy's throwing motion with short yardage pass attempts. It's hard to describe it, but the best I can say is that it comes from way over the top. The result is that the ball is on a straight line...
I agree with this....may not be our "go to" defense but I see a place for this scheme. Remember we came out in 3-4 and ULM clearly didn't expect this and was called for delay of game. IMO we need to be able to stop the short 5-8 yd pass in the flat/over the middle. I think either a 3-4 on 1st...
Yeah, he's from Mt. Pleasant...
When he was a student at Iowa Wesleyan, he used to also volunteer at Van Allen Elementary, supervising the lunch room and afternoon recess. I remember he used to let us play tackle football even though we weren't allowed to (had to be touch). Hope he has...
