So some people are saying I was crazy...

Agreed. The whims of the committee can change from week to week. Wouldn't be surprised to see Iowa drop next week even with a win over Minnesota. If Baylor beats Oklahoma (don't think it will happen) I would think Baylor would move into the 5 spot. The committee is basically saying to Baylor...

Will King leave for the NFL?

King will have an interesting decision. His speed is better than most likely give him credit for. His ability to play routes and find the ball is really unusual/good for a corner in college. He just so rarely gets out of position. Also a very good tackler. I could see him playing safety, or...

    Why is Indiana so threatening?

Indiana has a capable QB (not great, but markedly better than Sam Richardson, Thorson from Northwestern and Hills from Maryland). A very good RB (the transfer from UAB), above average receivers and a coach who can coach offense. It doesn't mean they are a juggernaut, but they are pretty clearly...

Ferentz Transcript: talks Injuries, maryland and perspective

Never committed to Iowa as far as I know. Likely that KF felt like Iowa had a good chance of getting him, but didn't.

    The Great Iowa SOS Myth

Should Iowa happen to win the next 2 games (Maryland and Indiana) this will become a much more important/relevant discussion. I don't see Purdue or Minnesota winning in Iowa City against a 9-0 Iowa team. The reason folks are talking about the schedule is that from this point forward, Iowa has...

Why KF philosophy may hurt Iowa's playoff chances

Disagree on that one, I doubt a 1-loss Iowa gets in unless a whole host of losses happen to the existing 0 and 1-loss teams. Iowa's one loss in that scenario would be to Maryland, Purdue, Indiana, Minnesota or Nebraska. That alone would move them out.

Why KF philosophy may hurt Iowa's playoff chances

Chances of an undefeated B1G team not making it into the playoffs are slim to none. If it were OSU, MSU or PSU there would be no question whatsoever. Like it or not, the B1G is either the first or second most powerful conference in the nation (with SEC). If undefeated B1G team were not in the...

    Indiana

Indiana's defense is atrocious. The Hoosiers offense, however, is not. The only way Indiana's defense slows Iowa down is with turnovers and penalties. So if Iowa dinks around, misses some field goals, turns it over in the red zone, etc., they could end up in a tight game. Indiana's offense will...

    Seriously Griese, shut up.

Fairly obvious he didn't spend any time watching Iowa before today. Beathard basically won the Pitt game with his combination of running and passing (40 attempts). I started throwing things when he said the best 4 teams in the conference were in the East (this includes Penn State). Good grief...

    Seriously Griese, shut up.

Yeah a win over a SEC team counts as like 4 wins, doesn't it?

Fitzgerald broken leg ... what was the story?

It was a bitterly cold game. Had snowed significantly the night before in Chicago. Game day was in the 20's, low 30's for temps, with high winds. The coldest game that I've ever sat through. Northwestern obviously had a very good team. Iowa went ahead early, but Northwestern ended up turning the...

    Jake Duzey ?

The injury (torn patellar tendon) he is coming back from is a devastating one. Victor Cruz had the same injury in October 2014 and is still not back on the field for the Giants. Duzey's injury was in April. The fact that he has played at all in games this year is amazing by itself. What I'm...

    CJB, himself, on his health

If Beathard was hurt seriously, i don't think they would have allowed him to be interviewed. It's encouraging that he made it through the game against Illinois. Beyond that, we are all guessing.

    Latest Jeff Sagarin Ratings..WTH?

Wisconsin being ranked ahead of Iowa in the Sagarin ratings doesn't prove the ratings are wrong. It takes into account who you played, as well as the margin of victory and defeat. And really, there is very little difference between the 21st and 26th team. Wisconsin benefits from having Alabama...

    OLine and Running game

Bingo, we have a winner. Getting big plays out of the running game is a must if you are going to feature a pro-set and running game as a staple of the offense. It is huge when you correctly block a play or the defense lines up wrong and you can make them pay with a 75-yard TD instead of a...

Parker Hesse and Matt Nelson, with their powers combined must become...

In a perfect world, you would have players at every class level and nice depth at every position. In reality, it doesn't work that way at a place like Iowa, especially if attrition occurs. The incoming recruiting class includes 6 guys with current position of DE. That will change as I would...

Hillyer getting open plus when T Smith is back

So now we're criticizing KF for what exactly? Jerminic Smith has played in every game this year. He was backing up T. Smith. The only way J. Smith could have played more would prior to T. Smith's injury was if Iowa played 4 WR formation as a staple of the offense. Should we just ditch the TE and...

Glad Daniels saw playing time today

He had some bad plays, no doubt. Perspective is also needed. He's a true freshman, playing a position (tackle) he literally just started playing a bit over a week ago. The more he plays, the better he will get. It doesn't mean there won't be negative plays next week against Northwestern, because...

    Faith Ekakitie

You do realize he recovered the fumble in perhaps the biggest play in the win over Wisconsin last week? Why do people always want to assume that there is something "wrong" with a player if he isn't playing as much as we think they should? First it's Scheel, or Daniels, or Ekakite. Sometimes guys...

    Sunrise Reality Check

We can go ahead and be excited. Yes, Iowa is winning close games (especially the last 2). But I would argue Iowa was clearly the better team against Iowa State and Pitt. Iowa outgained the opponent by significant amounts. Iowa outgained ISU 475 to 310. Outgained Pitt 363 to 282. Iowa's only real...
