Hawkeyes No. 23 in Coaches Poll

Iowa certainly has a case for being higher than 23, but such are things when you lose 3 times. Gonzaga and Butler both higher ranked with 3 losses. But Iowa has a far more impressive season to date than either Gonzaga or Butler. Gonzaga's best win is over UConn. Butler beat Purdue but no one...

So, where will Iowa be ranked in the AP this afternoon?

Yeah I believe Iowa will be the only 3-loss team ranked. Harder to get past 18 or 20 with 3 losses right now.

    Baer...take note Uthoff

Careful you are going to interrupt the powerful narrative going on that Uthoff isn't a leader, whatever that means.

    Baer...take note Uthoff

Good grief man. Iowa fans wouldn't be happy with Magic Johnson in his heyday. Uthoff's leadership is fine. Without Uthoff at Purdue, Iowa would have been behind 37-5 or something like that. A total of 4 points scored by people not named Uthoff in that game in the first half. Uthoff's ability and...

    Nebraska game

Blowout would be nice, but I'll take a win of any sort. Almost guarantee game will be close, at least for a while. Iowa has had 3 days of hearing how good they are, and natural inclination is to not play as hard against a bad Nebraska team. If Valentine is back and healthy, winning at MSU...

    Thoughts on Purdue

Purdue is unlike almost any other team in the country just due to their massive size. They are the best defensive team in the nation, according to Pomeroy's defensive efficiency rankings. It's next to impossible to score in close due to Haas, Hammons and Swanigan. And they have good perimeter...

    Can someone please explain what's +/- ?

The measurement is fine if it's understood in context. How does the team do when a player is on the court? That's what it's answering. Of course, there could be a lot of other factors that go into how the team does, but over time +/- ratings can be a factor in determining a player's...

Thoughts on where program is heading?

I would disagree that the tournament is watered down. The overall quality may not be the same, but that's due to players not staying in college. There are more teams from non-power conference grabbing spots. You make it sound as if making the tournament 7 or more times in 10 years is a given...

Does Brian F. get promoted to OC after the Rose Bowl???

No disagreement that tough decisions have to be made. They have to be made every year. But I'm curious as to how any of us can evaluate whether or not BF is the "most talented" assistant coach? That is something that really only the head guy can evaluate. He sees all of the staff every day and...

Thoughts on where program is heading?

Just to put this into a bit of perspective. If Iowa makes the NCAA tournament this year (on a trajectory to do so), it will mean 3 straight years of making the tournament. The last time that happened was the 1990-91 through the 1992-93 seasons under Mr. Davis. Davis had another separate 3-year...

Are we preseason top 5 in 2016?

It matters for the overall health of the program. Results on the field are the ultimate barometer as this year proved, but it is far better for the program to be rated highly pre-season. It means you are talked about, given the benefit of the doubt, the program is promoted, all that stuff. If...

Is this the biggest Iowa game in our generation?

Barta has zip, zero to do with Iowa's bowl destination if Iowa loses. The CFP committee slots the New Year's Six bowls. The Peach Bowl is not the Peach Bowl of the 1980s, it's one of the big boys in today's college football landscape.

Is this the biggest Iowa game in our generation?

This is true. In my mid-40s now, and it's the biggest in my lifetime. The 1985 Iowa-Michigan (No. 1 vs. No. 2) was previous biggest in my mind. But every win from here on out the stakes are raised. Can't take it for granted that Iowa will be in this position again soon, so enjoy it while it's here.

    Drop Iowa State for good

Why does anyone attend any school? Everyone has his/her own reason. Proximity to home, cost, did their parents/siblings attend and have a good experience?

    We are back.....again

Yeah it's too soon to pronounce the Wojo era a failure. He's finding out it's harder to win when you don't have better talent than your opponent. The only place he's ever coached is Duke, where they get the best of the best. If he can actually coach, there's enough talent on the Marquette...

Who Was Around When Haydon Started Coaching Iowa?

There wasn't a great deal of buzz when Fry came on board. Iowa was in the midst of 20 consecutive non-winning seasons, so nothing was going to change perception other than winning. The visual mattered to Fry, it's why he brought in the new uniforms, the Tiger Hawk, etc. Didn't cause a big stir...

    Herbstreit has Iowa #7

This. It doesn't matter much at this point. If a 12-0 Iowa beats a 12-0 Ohio State, Iowa will get the bump. Iowa will get the same bump with a win over a 10-2 Michigan who is in the title game. Narratives take a while to break. Iowa is forcing its way into the conversation by winning. But...

    Wadley

My guess is he could have played if needed. But Iowa has seen that the RB's who aren't healthy aren't real productive. Any of the 4 guys Iowa has can be productive when healthy. Canzeri wasn't quite there last night, but he will look better this week against Purdue. Good problem to have.

Are we still hot after anyone in recruiting?

Agree, any bigger bump will be felt next year. May help get a couple of guys yet this year, but this year's class is mostly completed.

    Minnesota names Tracy Claeys HC

Going with Claeys was probably wise. Especially on the 3-year contract. It allows Minnesota to easily cut bait after next year if it's obvious that Claeys isn't the guy, but allows them to keep staff continuity and try to continue to build what Kill started there. Gophers' schedule eases up a...
