From the other board (Minny season is over).

No question here - Northwestern has the higher win percentage and less losses than Iowa, and they have already reached the 6-game minimum. Again, if they only finish with two losses they are in as well. Hawks only chances are for NW to lose to both Minnesota and Illinois. That loss to a bad...

We can do this analysis somewhat systematically: SEC winner is in (Bama/Florida) ACC winner is in (Notre Dame/Clemson) I think 6-0 OSU with wins over Indiana (maybe the Big Ten champ) and Iowa would make it over the Big 12 and Pac-12 winner. But if Alabama and Clemson won their respective...

From the other board (Minny season is over).

I think it highly unlikely that a 6-0 Ohio State would make the playoffs. They haven't looked all that dominant this season, especially on the line of scrimmage. If Iowa defeats Illinois and Wisconsin, they will play the East #2 anyway (either Indiana or OSU, of the latter gets the chance to...

From the other board (Minny season is over).

I agree, but it makes sense the rules were written this way as it isn't Northwestern's fault if next weekend's game is cancelled. They won the two games they needed to in order to secure the division. If only the Big Ten had stuck to its original plan, which made far more sense as it included...

If true, NW wins the West. "A team must play at least six games to be considered for participation in the championship game. However, if the average number of conference games played by all teams falls below six, with the average rounded up/down at .50 (i.e. 6.50 or greater would round up to...

    Spencer Petras

Stanzi, Rudock, Beathard, and Stanley have all spent time on NFL rosters, with circa ten pro starts for CJB. Very few programs (if any?) consistently develop great QBs, because the position is so difficult. Ohio State's QBs have lit up the college scoreboard, yet Cardale Jones, JT Barrett, and...

    Come on Sparty...show up today.

Eh, they probably go 5-5 in a best of ten series against one another. Northwestern's defense is salty - they never allow the long, sustained drives which Iowa has given up to Purdue, NW, and Nebraska. Both teams are flawed offensively, with a slight edge to Iowa as NW doesn't have players to the...

    Come on Sparty...show up today.

Northwestern has had an incredibly thin margin for error all season. The announcer just said for 3/5 games they failed to exceed 300 yards of offense, yet they won them all. That being said, they came back from the same score vs Iowa and there is no doubt in my mind that Rocky has an INT or two...

    Spencer Petras

I always see this perspective on the boards, and I don't think it aligns with reality. Ferentz moved to Beathard and Stanzi over established starters, and it paid off. He also let Stanley jump an upperclassman, which also was a great move (Stanley wasn't perfect, but he was an above-average Big...

    B1G TEN WEEK 9 games

Indiana would be a fun matchup. Their run defense is pretty suspect, but they blitz a lot on passing downs which would be a good challenge for Petras. I think they would bust a few plays on offense, but I don't think they are as patient or consistent as needed to be vs Iowa to continually mode...

    B1G Games 11-21

Ohio State is clearly the Big Ten's best team, but they don't look as good as last year. Offensive and defensive lines not nearly as dominant. Still the class of the conference at position players.

Minnesota Beats Purdue - Jeff Brohm

And penalties. Sargent's fumble was a good play by the defense. Goodson's was unnecessary, but if I remember correctly Purdue didn't score on the next series and I think Iowa eventually did. On the other hand, there were so many unnecessary penalties.

    Phil Parker the Man

I think there is some confirmation bias at play here as well. Iowa covered up Bateman pretty well last week. Rondale Moore did nothing two years ago (albeit at the expense of covering Purdue's other WRs). David Montgomery was covered well in his final season at ISU. Pittman did nothing for USC...

    Penn St looking very winnable

I think they are on the caliber of Purdue this year. Have a few studs (At WR and DE), but not a complete team and mediocre at best at QB. If Iowa plays a complete game, they should win by 10+, but I think PSU will be competitive as Petras is likely to make a mistake or two. The betting line...

    Petras Stats

I think Kirk and co have actually handled QB controversies pretty well in the past. I doubt they move on from Petras mid-season given how unusual 2020 has proven to be. But if Penn State/future opponents stack the box, I think Padilla could be a good change up for a few series. Run some zone...

    Interesting Thoughts on Next Year

ISM and Brandon Smith will both test well at the combine/pro day and have more than enough film to go off. Not sure either one gets drafted, but they will have a good chance to make a practice squad at a minimum. I would be shocked if either one stayed. Linderbaum should go, but I am guessing...

In a normal year with spring and august camp and 3 non conf games ...

The virus has already given us an edge because it helped us gain a half game on Purdue's lead. If Purdue finishes 5-2 and Iowa 6-2, I assume the Hawks are in?

In a normal year with spring and august camp and 3 non conf games ...

This team is very similar to 2018 and 2008. Just few plays away from being special, but very clearly a good team at every level. That being said, still half the season to go ...

We Every team is guaranteed a 9th game. Goes by division standings. Northwestern is actually pretty good, their defense will keep them in every game. Purdue stinks - Iowa blows them out with a slightly cleaner game. The mistakes just came at the worse moments.
