Quite the performance by the Huskers, especially after they played yesterday. Whereas it looked like our legs were gone at the 10 minute mark. We played pretty well, not many teams could have done that to us. Wouldn't surprise me if NE ran the table in the tournament.
Actually Warner and Bulger after him got battered pretty good with the Rams. Yeah, a crappy O-line didn't help. It took Warner a couple of years as a backup to heal and return to form; Bulger never did.
I don't follow a lot of other WBB teams closely, but I haven't noticed that the other in-state schools or B10 schools have had the sheer number of serious injuries year after year that Iowa has. Sure it's not unusual to lose a key player (for UNI to lose Kalin was huge for them this year) but...
According to Fran, his body fat % did not increase, so in theory the weight was all muscle and therefore he should have been stronger, faster, etc. Not the first theory to be shot down by actual results.
With this being Feb, seems possible if not likely that she'll miss a chunk of next season as well. Coach Bluder and JP may be forced to consider a redshirt for 2012-13.
OUT FOR SEASON:
Hannah Draxten had to end her career over the summer because of recurring back problems
Megan Considine, Achilles tendon injury (and is a senior so may be finished)
Jade Rogers, knee repairs from previous injuries
Jamie Printy
MISSED TIME:
Virginia Johnson...
Johanna Solverson was McD AA I believe. Had she been healthy her entire career she'd be all over the Iowa record books. Sadly, 3 blown ACL's cut back on her accomplishments.
Lindsay Richards was also AA, and a 3 time ACL.
Crystal Smith was AA honorable mention (and daughter of ex-Hawk...
The Hawks kicked the crap out of OSU last season in IC and beat MSU in a close one. Guess you're watching has indeed been half-hearted. Johnson's game is agility and quickness (when she has a healthy set of knees and ankles), not power. She just isn't hugely muscular; look what happened when...
I'm tired of it also, along with the weird numbers where the 2's look like 7's on TV. Surprising that both Lick and Fran kept that Alford-era artifact.
No, the originals for this design are from the early 80's in Lute's last season and also used during the Raveling years. The Miller era unis were quite different. The Register had some old Iowa BB pics on their site at the beginning of the season that showed these, they might still be available.
Actually coach Blevins had Stringer-level success up until the last couple of seasons. Some interesting rumors regarding what led to her retirement, I don't claim to know what actually happened.
There's an argument to be made IMHO that Bluder isn't recruiting to play the aggressive, physical game that WBB has evolved into, current freshman class notwithstanding. We have and have had good players, but we are really bothered when we get bumped and slapped the way Purdue did to us Sunday...
