    worst losses last 10 years

Yeah, I'd put the 2016 Rose Bowl and the recent loss to the Maize & Blue in the BTen title game as the two worst -- because they were the two largest stages.

    Spencer vs RBY

True. But Spencer has always been stronger at the beginning of matches compared to the end. If you're gonna get him, you're gonna get him in the 2nd period.

    Spencer vs RBY

My goodness -- Middle School meets in Iowa have more fans in the stands than that tourney! Thanks for posting. Really appreciate it.

Indiana bar a bit higher than Iowa

This is a funny post. I've been unimpressed with Indiana's current coach for a few years, and recently asked my friend in Indiana why the Hoosiers haven't fired him. He replied that Indiana folks seem to have realized that they're not going to get the top recruits anymore, and figure he's as...

Anybody who missed tonight's Iowa-Nebraska dual meet...

...either in-person or on TV -- missed a doozy! Hawks down 16-9 with just two matches to go; got a Fall and Major Decision to win 19-16. When Buchanan got a Fall late in the 3rd period to pull Iowa within one point -- BOOM! I literally propelled off the couch. And I ain't a young man! Damn.

    Bo Bassett

Heck, growing up in Waterloo we were cutting weight in Jr. High! But by the time my sons were in Middle School in the early 2000s, they'd eliminated weight classes and just matched guys up according to whatever weight they weighed in at that day. A good change.

    Hawkeyes - Gophers Game Thread

That was a gutsy win vs an 18-5 team on the road. You can tell that the USC game has re-instilled the confidence to win games like this -- I say 're-instilled' because Affolter, Feuerbach, Stuelke, et all have experience winning close games, just not with this group of gals. Now, you can tell...

    Ava Heiden?

Agreed...Kylie is sort of the team's defensive specialist.

    Ava Heiden?

I get your point, but would disagree with the 'inexperienced' label. Kylie started 24 of 28 games as a Freshman when at Iowa St., and by the last half of the 2023-24 season was usually playing 15-23 min/game for the Hawks. That's more than a 'bit role player'. As you point out, Syd played...

    Ava Heiden?

I'm a little baffled by all the references to the Iowa women's team being "so young". Holy cow, their starting lineup consists of: Senior, Senior, Senior, Senior, Junior. In what universe does that qualify as "really young"? Of course the backups are young, but geez, folks, keep it real.

24/25 Basketball Stats Thru 21 Games

Just read that Freeman is out for the remainder of this season. Ouch. Time to see what Mulvey can do -- doubt that he'll average 16 pts/game like Freeman, but I can see him averaging 10pts and 7 rebounds pretty easily if he gets all of Freeman's minutes.

    PENN STATE

What was amazing was the discrepency in takedowns between the #1 and #2 teams. Not counting Ayala's TDs vs the PSU reserve, Iowa had a TOTAL of 2 TDs the entire night vs Penn St. starters. Considering Iowa boasts two #1 guys, two #2 guys, etc, that's an amazing stat. Often when Iowa gets in...

    Quick notes on D

You've precisely described what Fran teaches as "being connected" together on defense. As opposed to "being connected" to the opponent.

    285- Ben

Feldman sure didn't show much this afternoon for being ranked #6. Today looked like the first time Kueter come onto the mat vs a Top 20 opponent with a sense of purpose on offense from the beginning. Underhooks, pushing Feldman around a bit. Didn't score off an offensive move, but what the...

    Iowa's realistic next coach

There's a lot of talk on this thread about how Iowa isn't willing to put up $$ to keep bball players like they have done for football players. Does anybody have proof of that or is it just conjecture? I mean, it's logical to assume that both Freeman and Dix had some well-funded bluebloods come...

    Iowa's realistic next coach

Yeah, like 5 years ago! Somehow he's got Iowa's players believing that 'being connected' on defense means leaving 40% 3 pt shooters you are supposed to be defending.

    Iowa's realistic next coach

The odd thing about this BTen season -- remember everybody felt pretty good about the non-con preseason and how the team was playing -- is there is plentiful talent on this team. Not according to me, but according to people who rate comparable talent in the BTen. Freeman was BTen Fr of the...

    OSU vs ND

The college season is getting ridiculously long. Some teams reported for fall practice around Aug. 1, and we're now close to Feb. 1 -- 6 months. This season the major conferences added an additional bye week, so now P4 teams sit on their asses for 2 weeks during the season, and the expanded...

    285- Ben

Yeah, he's a bit of a puzzle. Seems to have no confidence on his feet at all, even against guys of similar talent. The fact he said going into this wrestling season that he also planned to return to the Iowa football team in the spring (after skipping a year) suggests to me that he may see his...
