B1G to announce TV games today

As a fan, it will be awesome to have that early game in the evening. Also relieved that the ISU game is at 11:00 and not a night game. Iowa HAS won at night in Jack Trice, but it won't be nearly the zoo it could be at 11 in the morning.

    Hungry?

Recently visited the Bay Area and took my son and daughter-in-law out to a hip, happenin' place known for great cocktails in downtown Berkeley for dinner on a Friday night. Place was hoppin'. Total tab for 5 drinks and multiple shared courses was $181, the most I've ever paid for dinner out...

    Hungry?

The last time I ate at Red Lobster it was nasty...not at all surprised they're toast. Appleby's used to be a hoppin' place, but the last time I went there it was like a ghost town and the scene was so weird we just turned around and walked out...they're toast too. Somehow, Olive Garden has...

    Pickup Trucks

No need to buy new when looking for a pickup. They're built to last years and take a fair amount of punishment. I bought a 5 yr old 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 in 2012 for about $23,000. I live in the city and am a relatively light user, but that truck is now 18 years old and I've done nothing but...

Change in Hall of Fame threshold

When Kirk retires, they'll lower it to whatever % they need to in order to make sure the Big Ten coach with the most all-time wins in the conference makes the Hall of Fame.

    BMC Pulls in another guard

True. I'm guessing BM's success at molding his current PG into an All American is a pretty good draw at this point.

    Potenial Big Ten-SEC schedule Alliance

I don't see an SEC-BTen schedule alliance helping the BTen, and I doubt it will happen. It's fine for the SEC -- they only play 8 SEC games. But for the BTen to add an SEC game to their already 9 BTen games, then you've got teams like Iowa that have long-time intrastate games or rivalries with...

    BMC Pulls in another guard

I like the way he probes the defense, then has a strong cross-over dribble to take advantage either direction. Also a strong catch-and-shoot % from 3 when he gets to his spot. Love the detailed breakdown of that film, including his weaknesses: turnovers and shooting off the dribble. Fixable...

Big Ten Baseball tournament --Hawks are the 3 seed, by far the best of the non-PAC12 teams in the B1G

Whoops. Messed up on the BTen tourney schedule. I figured Rutgers and Indy would play on Thursday, but they actually play today. No teams from the Hawks' pool play on Thursday. If Rutgers wins today and then Iowa beats Rutgers tomorrow, that would be perfect and guarantee the Hawks make the...

Ol’ KF Has Rebuilt the “O”

Exactly. Making BF the QB coach -- when Brian acknowledged and stated publicly that he knew basically nothing about the position when it came to coaching it -- is a perfect example of the Peter principle.

Big Ten Baseball tournament --Hawks are the 3 seed, by far the best of the non-PAC12 teams in the B1G

Last season the Hawks did travel south and play LSU early in the season -- and beat 'em. This year they didn't play any marquee teams down south, and lost to most of who the played. I guess the perfect scenario heading into the BTen tourney would be to win their 1st game vs Rutgers on Wed, then...

Big Ten Baseball tournament --Hawks are the 3 seed, by far the best of the non-PAC12 teams in the B1G

Thanks for all the info -- hadn't seen it yet anywhere else! If the Hawks can make the semis, it will be a good opportunity to play the Bruins, who they didn't face during the regular season. Beat UCLA and they might be able to play their way back into the NCAA discussion.

Ol’ KF Has Rebuilt the “O”

I think the above optimistic scenario would be more likely prior to the NIL era. While players looking for stability will gravitate more and more to Iowa City, that's not necessarily the BEST players -- those guys are typically looking for the most cash, and most exposure, i.e. conference...

Ol’ KF Has Rebuilt the “O”

    1. Lester's offense, the 'Shanahan system' is extremely complicated. Each play is often 2 sentences long, with a single word change indicating a completely different play. 2. Almost no other college teams run the offense, due to its complexity. 3. This fact will be a huge advantage when facing...

    a new reality

Very rarely would citizens of a country vote to go to war, if given the choice. Because usually it's the citizens who suffer, not government officials who make that decision.

    ISU Athletics

The Waterloo metro is an interesting mix: seems to me the fan breakdown is about 1/3 UNI, 1/3 Iowa, and 1/3 Iowa St.

Heller's Hawks get big win at Washington!

After suffering two gut-wrenching bottom of the 9th inning walk-off losses -- one by suicide squeeze Friday night, and by HR Saturday night -- the Hawks rebounded nicely today with a no-doubt 8-0 shutout today. Saturday night's game was especially painful, as Heller's boys went 0-11 with...

Odds of societal collapse in US...

Spent last week in Albany (a small town next to Berkeley) visiting my son and daughter-in-law. This week am in SF, visiting old friends, former lovers, and old haunts. I lived here 5-6 years in my early 20s, working and going to school at SF State. Am staying at a bnb next to Golden Gate Park...

    Hawk Central and Payton Sanford

There may be some truth to what you're saying, but after reading the article it appears that almost any type of physical contact could lead to either shoulder going out again. My guess is he was looking to avoid as much contact as possible, and the best way to do that was to stay on the...
