    Starting Quarterback

Padilla has a number of things going for him. Two wins and no losses to his record. No questions about injury status. He started out well in both games. His mobility helps with an struggling offensive line. He has a very quick release. He's been reasonably accurate without any major game...

Official "This Board Got fixed Just In Time" game thread.

It's going to be ugly wins and even uglier losses from here on out. Nothing unexpected. I was just happy the offensive line play was serviceable. Padilla can throw on the run. That makes a big difference.

    Wisconsin Prediction Thread

On a slightly more serious note, this might be one of those games where Iowa should take a safety if trapped inside their own ten yard line. Instead of letting Wisconsin run their power running game with a dramatically shortened field, just take the safety and punt from the 20.

WUWs highlight surprising facts regarding current O-line

I think some of this has to do with over all scholarship limits and how they think they can cover their recruiting needs. Guard is one of those position where they can develop walk-ons for at least part of their depth. Right guard has been the perennial developmental spot for Iowa. I would...

Wisconsin opens as a 2.5 favorite

Wisconsin's defensive alignments and odd man fronts tend to give Iowa's blockers fits even in a normal year. With an inexperienced offensive line, I look for that trend to continue.

Brian Ferentz Looking for Answers on Offense

I made a comment that I hoped Lachey isn't seriously dinged up and makes it back at TE. I believe Lachey was out for the Purdue game. Playing 12 personnel works a lot better if you have proven productivity in both TE. I believe Miamen is currently the #3 tight end. Not sure if he has played much.

All of a sudden it looks a lot tougher for Iowa

Sam's big year was 2004, when Tate was a first year starter. He started the year behind Jermelle Lewis, Marcus Schnoor, Albert Young, Marquees Simmons. There was also another running back who was dismissed from the team before fall camp. Sam was literally the last man in. He almost never got...

All of a sudden it looks a lot tougher for Iowa

If I remember right the back end of the defense was riddled with injuries in the second half of the season. The 2006 offense was pretty pedestrian, not as bad as this season's offense. The receiving core that year was about as thin as Iowa has ever had. I don't remember that team being...

Bye Week - Who are we rooting for?

Hopefully the Hawks can stay healthy through this weekend's contests (and stay out of trouble).

Bye Week - Who are we rooting for?

Maryland beating Minnesota would definitely help the Hawks. Wisconsin over Purdue with half of Wisconsin's defense thrown out for targeting in the second half of the game. That would work.

Brian Ferentz Looking for Answers on Offense

I'm hoping Lachey makes it back at TE. He was starting to be a regular feature both blocking and receiving. Having tight ends who can block and release on either side complicates things for teams trying to blitz. If it's essentially just LaPorta at TE for the entire game, it kind of limits...

    A revealing stat

With the issues the offensive line was already having at tackle, I wonder how badly having Latchey and Ince out compounded the pass blocking issues. If you have both LaPorta and Latchey out there, you have more flexibility on who stays in for pass blocking while the other runs his passing...
