    Álvaro Folgueira

Perhaps I'm old-fashioned, but this has been a major disincentive for me personally. I no longer follow the NBA and MLB for exactly that issue, and my fear is that it will gradually degrade my passion for college sports. I have an innate need to follow a "team" over time, see them develop...

    CJ Fredrick Retires From Basketball

I have some inside connections with regards to CJ. Ironically, the person who was the original connection that led Fran to recruiting CJ ended up being the same person that essentially sabotaged the relationship later. It all centered around CJ's lingering ankle issue. Fran was under pressure...

    Tariffs

I'm not sure who you are lecturing to, here. Where exactly in my post did I express my approval of Trump's strategy?

    Tariffs

Whether someone is a Trump supporter or not, you have to admit, he has balls (many would say it's more "lack of brain..." but that's a different argument). One of the major pitfalls of out democratic system is the disincentive to make any decision that would hurt initially, but potentially pay...

Carver Getting A $96 Million Parking Garage

As far as Carver, as has been discussed many times, a new arena/location probably isn't very feasible, and I'm sure there will be some changes inside the arena. My criticism has always been the bowl construction and lack of any kind of statuesque appearance from the outside. I don't know if we...

Carver Getting A $96 Million Parking Garage

On a side note, the Carver family is moving to Iowa City. Not sure if that's right away or in months, but that's the buzz I got from my daughter, who's friends with their daughter.

Second Four Star Recruit Badara Diakite Decommits

I was always a supporter of Fran, but the more I reflect upon it, I think it was the right time. There's never a "good" time to fire a coach. Almost all recruits immediately take a step back and reevaluate. Many go elsewhere. That's just the nature of college sports. If an AD fires a coach...

    Freeman commits

I would never denigrate any college player maximizing their income while they can. The future is very uncertain for pretty much all of these young players. Cash in when you can. BUT, it cuts both ways. In the real world, with high reimbursement comes high expectations. That's simply a fact of...

    Spring 2 deeps

Not a ton of surprises there. The offensive line will be interesting to watch. Lauck definitely will push Dotzler. Same with Myslinski pushing Pieper at RG. Pieper is the kind of guy coaches love, but he's really limited in terms of strength and athleticism. The interior of the defensive line...

    JuJU Watkins chasing CC

What's weird is that isn't a lot of evidence pointing specifically at headers. It seems that there is something about the sport that lends itself to concussions in girls. I would surmise that it might be the constant sudden start/stops.

    JuJU Watkins chasing CC

The exact medical reason is unknown, but they are also more susceptible to concussions. Women's soccer has one of the highest concussion rates in sports.

    Fran to Penn...

IIRC, he played there. That's a good fit for him, IMO. He'll be back home essentially and won't face near the pressure he would at a P5 school. I am a little surprised, though. I thought he would take a year off and hang in Indy for awhile before getting back into the grind.

That sucks, but it is what it is. Tough way to lose.

    Tourney Weekend

I had a feeling that Hendrickson had a chance. He's the only guy in the field that can match Steveson's athleticism. The announcers were labeling it the biggest upset in NCAA history. I don't know, I think the other "Gable" loss probably supersedes it. I stupidly forgot to record the early...

    Who should Iowa hire?

Actually the post at the time wasn't. It was before Lickliter coached a game at Iowa, or Stevens at Butler.

    Who should Iowa hire?

I don't recall who it was, but there was a poster shortly after Lickliter was hired that stated that Lick's success at Butler was due to Stevens and that he would be exposed once he started coaching here. Pretty solid take in retrospect.

INDIANA TAMPERING??? De Sleaze (college basketball as we know it)

Oh, I get it. Take what you can get when you can. I know that it's idealistic to look at anything related to the current dog-eat-dog world we know as sports entertainment when it comes to prioritizing things such as loyalty and integrity, but to some degree we as a society have to continue to...

INDIANA TAMPERING??? De Sleaze (college basketball as we know it)

I was actually somewhat relieved when I heard he shunned Iowa for IU. Any coach that accepts three job offers in one year has questionable integrity IMO. No one can fault him for chasing the money, but at least short-term loyalty has to factor in to a degree. It's a bad look.

    Tourney Weekend

Ayala has at least a puncher's chance. Buchanan will have a tough road with Ferrari, then either Cardenas or Barr. Unless Ferrari self-implodes at some point (which is highly possible), I don't see Buchanan reaching the finals. To have a chance, he's going to have to start bringing it early in...
