    College Football Playoff

I like bowl games and prefer that the playoffs not be expanded that far. That would be 17 games for the two teams in the nattie. Personally, what has made college football so unique is that the regular season is so important that every game is practically a must win. If you expand the...

    Kirk says offense is ready.........

Certainly part of the Shanahan offense is using the short passing game as an extension of the run. Lester was wise to not go all in last year with a true Shanahan offense given the downhill power runner he had at RB and an OL that was schooled in power zone blocking. He kept it simple...

Which BTen coach would be your first choice to hang out with and have a beer?

Of course it would be KF so we could talk Iowa and I could meet the legend. But, I think the question is just a personality thing, not team specific. Even so, KF would be high on my list. He is a real dude. I would go with Dan Lanning from Oregon with Coach Cig and Indiana a close second...

    Kirk says offense is ready.........

At this point last year we could accurately state that the offense has nowhere to go but up. We can't say that this year. Lester exceeded my expectations for his first season at the helm, installing an NFL offense, and playing to his strengths. Despite having almost zero playmaking ability at...

    College Football Playoff

Would 10-2 with losses to Penn State and Oregon get us in? Probably no signature win, but a lot of good wins with that schedule. 10 wins was good enough for Tennessee to sneak in.

    Coach Barnwell Mic'd Up

It means he will probably hire his dopey kid to be his assistant coach and put him in charge of offense, and then Iowa will finish 5th in the conference every year winning games 46-43, and always just be on the cusp of national relevancy but not quite.

    Noah Fant Released

I hear you, but this is part of the reason that people hang him with mental/attitude/effort shit. BF is an all-time bad OC, without a doubt. But, he wasn't actively trying to lose. If you have a talented kid who is not applying himself in practice and games 100%, a lot of coaches keep guys...

    Noah Fant Released

Agreed. Hock is also on his second team and was drafted even higher. Hock's numbers are better, despite a pretty serious injury, but he played with Stafford and Cousins and a resurgent Sam Darnold. I think Fant has had a solid career so far and probably has some upside that has not be...

    Coach Barnwell Mic'd Up

This is going to be a very different team to watch. Tough, sticky, gritty. Words we didn't use a lot with Fran's teams. Should be an interesting transition.

    Noah Fant Released

I think Fant has been unfairly cast as not a hard worker or team player, much of which stems from the weird dynamic with his brother, but also being the second best TE on your college team, but still being a first round draft pick talent. Fant has had a solid NFL career to this point. He is...

    Noah Fant Released

He'd look good in a Chiefs uniform as a Kelsey replacement. He has never played with a good QB since joining the NFL. Chiefs could sign him at a bargain and Mahommes would make him a star. Go Hawks!

    Gronowski

JVB got a raw deal, and he was really good his first year, but really putrid that second year. You can't just ignore that and wonder What if. That's why he doesn't make my list.

    Ben and the Recruiting

Would love to see Thompson start and Koch develop into that 6th Man of the Year type players. I could also see Koch sliding down to the starting 2 spot. That would be a long line-up.

    Gronowski

I somewhat agree on Stanley. He won a lot of games and was solid at QB. Low ceiling, high floor, mostly got the job done. I have him 5th on the KF QB list: Tate Banks Beetherd AmeriStanzi Stanley The list stops for me there.

    Gronowski

Its been a long time since Iowa has had a really good offense and a mediocre defense. If ever, under KF. If Iowa's offense does take a big step forward, as you are predicting, I still don't see the D devolving into mediocrity. That said, and as I have stated in other threads, there is a...

    Gronowski

Agreed. Stanley is certainly not the standard Iowa should aspire to. Lester can recruit and produce at a higher level than that. But, given what followed Stanley, and how putrid it was, he looked good by comparison. We just needed an effective QB from 2021-25 given the D and special teams.

    Gronowski

This is the best QB we have had since Beatherd. The Stanley years under BF were sneaky decent on offense. In 2019 Stanley threw for almost 3,000 yards and 16 TDs. He also was an effective runner. I have posted this before, but if we just had that good of an offense the last 4 years we would...

    Gronowski

Its easy to get excited reading things like that, but every program feels that way right before the season is going to kick in. It would be hilarious to have a quote from a player like: "we really regressed a lot in the offseason. We lost some great players to the draft and portal, and the...

    Depth Chart Projection

Even if Gron. is just okay, he will be an upgrade at the most important position on the field. He could be elite? Aren't we due for a break at QB? Why shouldn't he be great? The offense will be better. If the defense can come close to replicating its performance the last few years (ya know...

    Depth Chart Projection

Fair points. What you say is why Parker incorporated the Cash position into his base D. Basically we play 3 safeties and 2 LBs most of the time these days. I agree DL do not get home as much with the quicker passing games, but if the DL cannot hold the point of attack on the run and put...
