Hmm. Maybe I'm Off My Rocker but.....

No, not generally. Thought you were talking about the other PGs we were recruiting. That skill set is why the others were recruited. Here is an article that just came out pertinent to this discussion...

Hmm. Maybe I'm Off My Rocker but.....

All guys who could get their own offense.

Hmm. Maybe I'm Off My Rocker but.....

I think we've mostly lacked a third consistent scoring option. An elite PG is the easy answer to that problem, I agree, but not the only one. We could have several 3rd scoring options emerge on the present team with a D-first primary PG.

Hmm. Maybe I'm Off My Rocker but.....

Fran goes after skill sets, not positions. That's something I have to remind myself of as well. When we were recruiting Watson for 2016 (who went to NE instead), we already had 2 guards that were going to play PG and be ahead of him. What did Fran have to sell the kid as far as immediate PT...

    HOOPS!!

Understandable. That's why Hawk fans generally follow football and basketball so they're never too disappointed. However, I prefer to stay true to my expectations of a team's or player's 'potential'. That's the only fun in it for me.

Hmm. Maybe I'm Off My Rocker but.....

Williams will not be another RDM. I'm hoping he'll be another Sapp Clemmons. At the limit of his potential, I'm thinking Aaron Craft. At 6'7", that would be a handful to prep for by an opposing team.

Michael Payne I think was listed shorter than he turned out to be in NBA combine- I believe by 2 inches.

Hmm. Maybe I'm Off My Rocker but.....

Fran went after Charlie Moore and got Bohannon instead as a SECOND PG, similar to Gesell/Clemons in the same class. I think Fran sees Williams as a PG because that's where he's going to be most productive. Isn't that how you 'ultimately' determine the best position for a player? I'm calling...

    HOOPS!!

But I'm not distorting the facts. I'm just making a pessimistic viewpoint sound silly in stating them about Cook. We do know a lot about him from several different angles- much more than some of those highly rated players who we've seen fail for other teams. Is it possible Cook won't pan out-...

    HOOPS!!

I understand the pessimism. No highly rated freshmen should be 'expected' to do well in the B1G. Especially those we haven't seen play and be interviewed to have some judgement of their character/attitude and be praised to the skies by the media and their coach and their teammates. We...

Hmm. Maybe I'm Off My Rocker but.....

If Williams is not a 1, at what position would he be more productive, as PC pointed out? Fran feels he has the handle to play there. Are you saying that a 6'7" guy with good but not elite quickness can't play at the 1? That's true of Gesell as well and he was 6'1". Gesell and some of Izzo's...

    Improved areas in '16-'17

There are such things as graduation and coaching and new classes in college BB. The cream of the 2015 class stayed and improved. The 2016 class is better. You don't believe this year's Wagner, Jones, Moss, Kriener, Pemsl, Bohannon are better than last year's Uhl, Baer, Ellingson?

    HOOPS!!

Someday I wouldn't be surprised. He's got the ability and attitude, now he's got to develop them. At 6'8", he's got to have the whole package ready to go for his position to be taken that high. I'm guessing the 2019 draft, after his junior year.

Hmm. Maybe I'm Off My Rocker but.....

It will be a real surprise if Williams is over 10ppg this year. He's not a big scorer, although he can have his moments, which is why he was lightly recruited. He might be a star but a defensive one. That is my hope and what we really need from him given our personnel. Williams may not score...

Hmm. Maybe I'm Off My Rocker but.....

I hear Iowa's in the top 5 for Tyger Campbell now. He's a highly rated 2019 PG with Iowa connections.

Hmm. Maybe I'm Off My Rocker but.....

As the season goes on, I think Dale becomes more prominent off the bench. As a regular 3rd shooting option, early on its probably got to be Uhl or Baer.

Hmm. Maybe I'm Off My Rocker but.....

I like the scorers behind Jok and Cook, who I agree are likely to be the 1st and 2nd options. However, I'd like to see one of the other scorers emerge as a clear 3rd option. But it needs to be a shooter to take pressure off Jok and Cook. Then the offense could be more more potent than last year.

    Peter Jok Article

I'm not worried about Uhl physically. His shooting performance in the PTL did make me apprehensive. If he can be aggressive and still put it in the hoop, I'll be happy.

All of the PTL Rosters for 2016

Not sure how well they'll do but team 6 will be interesting to follow. Morgan will be a UNI star this year and Rhodes is a JC PG brought in with Washpun's departure so could see significant time this year. Cook and Dailey will have plenty of chances to show what they can do on this team as well.

    Mike Gesell's play

I think most Hawk fans are used to seeing successful scoring PGs be scoring PGs. Tom Davis certainly had his share. Alfraud had Oliver and Horner. Even Cartwright was a scorer with Fran. But Gesell is definitely a pass-first guy who looks to penetrate. He does what he has to to win. And...
