Big Ten Baseball tournament --Hawks are the 3 seed, by far the best of the non-PAC12 teams in the B1G

Thanks for all the info -- hadn't seen it yet anywhere else! If the Hawks can make the semis, it will be a good opportunity to play the Bruins, who they didn't face during the regular season. Beat UCLA and they might be able to play their way back into the NCAA discussion.

Ol’ KF Has Rebuilt the “O”

I think the above optimistic scenario would be more likely prior to the NIL era. While players looking for stability will gravitate more and more to Iowa City, that's not necessarily the BEST players -- those guys are typically looking for the most cash, and most exposure, i.e. conference...

Ol’ KF Has Rebuilt the “O”

    1. Lester's offense, the 'Shanahan system' is extremely complicated. Each play is often 2 sentences long, with a single word change indicating a completely different play. 2. Almost no other college teams run the offense, due to its complexity. 3. This fact will be a huge advantage when facing...

    a new reality

Very rarely would citizens of a country vote to go to war, if given the choice. Because usually it's the citizens who suffer, not government officials who make that decision.

    ISU Athletics

The Waterloo metro is an interesting mix: seems to me the fan breakdown is about 1/3 UNI, 1/3 Iowa, and 1/3 Iowa St.

Heller's Hawks get big win at Washington!

After suffering two gut-wrenching bottom of the 9th inning walk-off losses -- one by suicide squeeze Friday night, and by HR Saturday night -- the Hawks rebounded nicely today with a no-doubt 8-0 shutout today. Saturday night's game was especially painful, as Heller's boys went 0-11 with...

Dang. Be careful, man, those Bay currents are nasty!

Odds of societal collapse in US...

Spent last week in Albany (a small town next to Berkeley) visiting my son and daughter-in-law. This week am in SF, visiting old friends, former lovers, and old haunts. I lived here 5-6 years in my early 20s, working and going to school at SF State. Am staying at a bnb next to Golden Gate Park...

    Hawk Central and Payton Sanford

There may be some truth to what you're saying, but after reading the article it appears that almost any type of physical contact could lead to either shoulder going out again. My guess is he was looking to avoid as much contact as possible, and the best way to do that was to stay on the...

Odds of societal collapse in US...

Not sure this counts as a 'societal collapse' issue, but perhaps... On vacation in CA and reading a few books. One I highly recommend is "Nuclear War: A Scenario". (Yeah, yeah, I know, kind of crazy book to read on vacation.) The author, Annie Jacobsen, interviewed about 50 people who are...

Hawks are alone in first place in the conference

UCLA is now 16-5, and 3 of their 9 remaining BTen games are vs NWestern, which I consider gimmes given the gap in talent. So in my mind, UCLA is sitting 19-5. Should be a doozie of a finish to the BTen season! Glad to see big crowds the past couple weekends at Banks Field. Go Hawks!

    Basketball Portal Question?

Yesterday at 5:10 a.m. ran into UNI Coach Jacobson and coaches saying goodbye to a portal recruit at the Waterloo airport. After the coaches left we all had a 1.5 hour delay due to storms, so I had a chance to visit with the young man, and later his father. The player said most schools want to...

Hawks are alone in first place in the conference

They are stackin' up those wins, man! Swept Minny on the road, swept Big Blue on the road. Love it! Only 9 more BTen games remain to seal the deal -- 6 of those at home. After underperforming last year, a lot things have fallen their way thusfar during the BTen season. Close the deal, guys!

Not Much Noise About Traore or Tadjo

If so, I think that's unfortunate. If coached up, seemed to me that he has the skill set. Perhaps not the mindset Coach is looking for.

Now That The Novelty Has Died Down Some...

My bad -- Pryce is 6'7".

Now That The Novelty Has Died Down Some...

The more I think about it, this is basically the replacement for Pryce Sandfort. Similar size and stats over the past 12 months. Altho Pryce has two years remaining, Brenden only 1.

Now That The Novelty Has Died Down Some...

Also 6'4". That's 1 of about 3 key pieces needed to be competitive next season. Wonder why he left K-State?

    Sullivan in the portal.

Can't blame Sully, and it makes no sense for him to stay in ICity. He has 1 year left to play college ball, and with Gronowski already named the starter, and the coaches already in love with him despite not seeing him take a FBS snap -- except in the game he lost to the Hawks at Kinnick -- it...

Now That The Novelty Has Died Down Some...

I think it would have been a heckuva game between the two teams early in the season, when both were healthy. A bummer that Iowa and the Clones backed out of their annual games with Drake and UNI.
