On the Record: Post your Iowa Basketball season predictions here

Exact same as mine, 1977. Even down to not predicting the postseason record. Between this and our football posts, I think I may be leeching some of your brainwaves or something.

Ferentz Talks Critics, Combat Uniforms & Recruiting

Haha. I did, man. I hated Evy before he became AD, and I wasn't even born yet.

    Peter Jok New Video

This is how I view Jok as well. Look at Diebler from OSU. Now he was a 52% 3-pt shooter, which is unreal, but if Oglesby and Jok can touch 45% and just play colorable on-ball defense (although Fran switches to zone as needed, too), then there will be plenty of minutes and a role open for those...

Iowa will be only team next season without a QB with any game experience

Stanzi played vs. Syracuse in 2007. It may not have been much, but it frames the whole offseason's worth of workouts by the QB having seen D1 game speed. We also won't have Shonn Greene and the 2008 defense next year. Stanzi always threw a good ball and had moxie, but I shudder to think even of...

Ferentz Talks Critics, Combat Uniforms & Recruiting

Honestly, I was more entertained by our 11-20 basketball team two years ago than I was by last year's 7-6 football team. Also, most of Alford's teams struggled with ball movement and flow, but played good enough D to be NIT-caliber. I didn't find his teams enjoyable to watch for the most part. I...

Iowa will be only team next season without a QB with any game experience

So, it's popular to refer to our second elected safety in the 2004 6-4 win at PSU as the "F.U. safety." I now predict we see an "F.U. backup QB series" now against Nebraska. Rudock comes in for two handoffs and screen pass.

Ferentz: JVB Gives Us Best Chance to Win

Hahaha. Perfect. Especially when our motto back then on defense was "Six Seconds of Hell." Beautiful. I recall him immediately after the game saying "that's a situation we'll look at." In a sense, that's a rare "mea culpa" from Kirk, but not strong enough for a guy who at the time had been a...

It's Fair to Say We've Hit Rock Bottom

It's Fair to Say We've Hit Rock Bottom

Iowa also played real non-con teams back then. 3-9 is the new 0-11, and we'll be damn close to 3-9 this year.

    This isn't Kirk's offense anymore

Because Vandy isn't accurate. He throws it behind guys that are 6 yards away as well.

    This isn't Kirk's offense anymore

Como? Are you saying our wide receivers are too fast for JVB's arm? Nope. I don't think we have quite the dearth of speed that some people often suggest we have at WR, but we don't have an abundance of it. As for Vandy, raw arm strength is about the only thing he has going for him right now.

******OFFICIAL******* Iowa vs. Quincy game thread

You'd be surprised how much can be gained from implementing practice stuff in a 'game' that is low intensity like this.

I still don't like our offensive flow against the trap. Reminding me of our struggles against NW last year.

What's the actual new rule on cut blocking?

I think it's only a flag if the defender is engaged and a second blocker comes in to cut. That's an illegal chop block.

    2012 5 Bold Predictions

I wouldn't be surprised if we made the dance. I said elsewhere that I'd just like to genuinely on the bubble this year. I think a lot of the optimism coming off of an 18-17 season stems from the notion that if our team at the end of last year replayed its non-con slate, it would have gone 11-2...

    2012 5 Bold Predictions

None of those seems too outrageous. Numbers 2 and 5 probably the most so, but we beat Indiana handily at home last year, and I think athletically we can hang with them better than OSU and MSU. Also, Gesell will have more possessions to rack up assists than any other B1G PG. Cartwright always was...

Game MGMT has always been KF's achilles heel

OP is dead on. Even in the good years. We all know the Cap One Bowl was a fluke. I would add in his first bowl win. He called timeout with about :50 left and time on the play clock to set up Kaeding's winning FG, IIRC. We ended the game intercepting the ball in our own end zone. He's never been...
