Hawkeyes - Cornhuskers B1G Championship Game Thread

In my book, Kate Martin cements her place as one of the all-time Hawkeyes. O Captain! My Captain!

Tickets for NCAA Sweet 16 sites?

Anyone know how this works? I think you can buy tickets now for Albany or Portland, but obviously you don't know who the teams are yet. Theoretically you could buy them Sunday night because you know which of those two regions Iowa would fall into. But you still wouldn't know if Iowa would be...

    Hawk Central, Tyler Tachman

I hate the East Coast, but Philly might be the best college basketball town in the country.

Will Caitlin Clark be the most famous Iowan ever?

CC has completely transcended any kind of niche status. I went to school with one of Gable's daughters and even went to some junior high parties at her house. Which is a cool talking point when chatting with Iowans over age 50, or if I ever run into a wrestling fan anywhere in the world. Last...

Will Caitlin Clark be the most famous Iowan ever?

In my opinion, there is no Mount Rushmore any longer for Iowa sports. There is a mountain top with Caitlin Clark.

    Bubble watch

I like the vibe we got going. I'm struggling to come up with a time since the late 80s where Iowa had three backcourt players together who could all penetrate, shoot and defend. This year, give me a play-in game in Dayton on Tuesday, the 5th seed on Thursday, and the 4th seed on Saturday...

    Bubble watch

I think it'll take another quad 1 win. If they lose to Illinois, I think they'll need to beat a tourney team (at the minimum) during the BTT to get in.

Great perspective - thanks for sharing.

Will Caitlin Clark be the most famous Iowan ever?

Yeah, no real way to measure, and the internet and then social media also adds a dynamic. It's more of a fun conversation than anything. I don't really consider John Wayne part of the conversation. He was born in Iowa but I don't think he even grew up there. I guess the part that's...

Will Caitlin Clark be the most famous Iowan ever?

At first I thought the debate was whether she was the greatest sports star ever at the University of Iowa. And then I thought maybe instead the debate was whether she was the greatest sports star ever from the state of Iowa. Now I wonder if we'll look back one day and realize she is the...

No. 12 Illinois Pulls Away from Iowa

This is fun. Unless Iowa loses the next two, we'll basically have a month of tournament type basketball, which started with the comeback win against Wisconsin. Man, if they can knock this next one back, it gets really exciting. Going to Evanston on a mission. Get that one, and we'd set up...

    Orange Crush Them Game Thread

Yep, totally agree. Sometimes I'm surprised when he gets a call on his drives to the basket, too. Like sort of hard to see where there was a foul, since he's fading away/jumping to the side. Seems like he'll get the call once in a while when the ball doesn't go in.

    Orange Crush Them Game Thread

My biggest complaint is his rebounding. Somehow he just doesn't have a knack for it, or the right mindset...I don't know. It's probably not a fair comparison, but his height, length, size and role are all pretty similar to Kris Murray. And Kris was an awesome rebounder last year. If Patrick...

    Orange Crush Them Game Thread

Yeah, he's had some very quiet games. But seems like a great role, and one he can embrace. He's giving you 10 points and 20 minutes. He almost single-handedly kept them in the game at Michigan State, scoring 12 points off the bench in the first half. He'd be great in that role next year.

    Orange Crush Them Game Thread

Yep, I was trying to tell my young kids you guys don't understand, that's one of the better Hawkeye performances I've seen in Assembly Hall. Iowa had the historic comeback there in '87 and won in overtime. I looked back and did a quick check (so could be wrong), but it appeared to me Iowa has...

    #4 Iowa - #14 Indiana Game Thread

We'll see. When Stuelke is healthy and running the floor really well, she gives them a dimension that last year's team didn't have. And despite being shorter, this year's team is a much better rebounding team. I'd argue this year's team is also deeper, with more ball handlers, shot creators...

Iowa had six losses at this time last year. They have four right now.

    Iowa/Wisconsin Game Thread

I think even getting one more of the three quad 1s opens things up for the BTT. Can't lay an egg there, but winning a game or two in Minneapolis should put them right in the mix. Definitely need to split the next four to enter the conversation going into the BTT though.

    Hawkeyes Knock Off Michigan State

What I loved most about last night was the manner in which Iowa won. East Lansing. Tom Izzo. Crowd into it. Not many threes going down. And yet Iowa was the grittier team, showing the superior mental and physical toughness. Krikke dug out the rebound when Iowa absolutely needed it. Perkins...

    Fran not retiring anytime soon

What I keep trying to point out is that I don't think there is anything inherent about Fran's style or coaching that has prevented Iowa from reaching the Sweet 16. We all get hung up on it, but it is far harder to finish 4th in Big Ten wins over a 5 year period then it is to reach a Sweet 16...
