I totally disagree with those making this argument. Some players want loyal coaches and will be loyal in return. I think Fran already makes character a priority in his recruits. Some will become disgruntled and leave. Some won’t have the character he thought they had. But I don’t envision...
2 Thoughts...
1 - Players aren’t given unlimited transfers.
2 - It’s the year of COVID with an extra year of eligibility on the table...impacts seniors in particular.
So there will always be a Portal of players. But this year is likely the worst it will ever be by far. And if coaches sit on...
Agree with 1 minor addition...Connor wasn’t taking minutes from CJ either IMO. The closest thing to a negative comment Fran ever made about CJ was that he needed to shoot more. I guess he wants to go where he’s not asked to shoot.
I guess I didn’t think about the fact he’s leaving because he’s getting passed on the depth chart. But folks bringing up Moss makes it obvious now. Cool! Now I’m really pumped. Good luck CJ.
Only quoted your post because of Moss mention...
That fence needed/needs a lot of mending. I’m fine rolling with Ulis, Perkins, Patrick and the Murray boys against whatever they have coming. That’s 5 freshmen next year plus the Brit and 2 more on the way. 8 freshmen!
I’m optimistic for 2 reasons...Fran’s ability to evaluate talent and his overall success with developing big guys. But I’m not excited as it relates to being an impact player this year. I suppose my biggest concern is he may just be a fallback recruit like the Murray twins...sarcasm.
Side...
My suspicion is he didn’t tell Fran (or his teammates) anything. CJ was one of my favorites. Now...Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
This may be true for you and many others. But the grad transfer was bad enough...already have seen how that works. This is grad transfer on steroids. The game will survive. I’m just not going to enjoy it as much...if at all.
This was my initial thought. But wait until the big boys start recruiting the top HS kids to put the transfers on the bench. I’m not sure what this mess looks like long term. But it’s a mess and could ruin college basketball for me personally.
