This week vs Washington is more of a bell weather for this team than last week.

McNamara is the proverbial, and literal, lame duck.

We dont have the OL talent to play the type of offense Kirk has played for 20+ years. But rather than change the scheme to fit the talent we have, Kirk prefers to run the same scheme. When it fails, he blames the player's 'poor execution'.

Our RB's have demonstrated an explosive ability to occasionally find a small seam in the line and break a big play. But we continue to try to run behind a compacted line that resembles the old wing-t formations. This allows the D to stack the box and reduce the gaps for RB's. Perhaps we should...

McNamara is delivering the promised improvement at QB that so many have been predicting. Last year's QB was 16th.

I agree. But we are seeing what level of QB talent wants to come to Iowa to handoff on stretch zones.

The decision to call off the fake punt (which was successful) is emblematic of the state of the Iowa football program. Playing #3 in country at home as a 3TD underdog, Kirk decides at the last second to play it ultra conservative and wave off the call. Classic Kirk. Playing not to lose.

So what did this game tell us?

About right. I picked em 8-4. They are not that good.

Reality. Even the “but 10 wins!” crowd realizes it has been smoke & mirrors

If Sullivan does not start next week, I may check out for the year. We have seen enough of McNamara. Time to play for next year.
