Is there apathy with Iowa basketball with lots of fans?

Iowa made 14 3's last night. Lack of 3 point shooting was not the issue.

Is there apathy with Iowa basketball with lots of fans?

I literally was just thinking about this picture lol. It sums up how Iowa hoops makes me feel.

Is there apathy with Iowa basketball with lots of fans?

It's not apathy in my case, it's just that I can echo what others have mentioned above. And it absolutely is not just a "this year" thing. It's 20+ years of frustration going back to the Alford days. Best opportunity I've seen this program to have a big year in a very long time, with the...

Crush the Bucknuts turn them into dirty snowballs Game Thread...

This might have something to do with our defense. Do you wonder why this is always the case? It's not a coincidence.

If Iowa played in the NCAA tourney RIGHT NOW ...

I went Sweet 16 given we should have a good seed and should in theory be able to win at least the first two games, being definitely the higher seed. It's just too hard to predict much beyond that. You never know how a bracket will shake out with match ups and upsets. Or if we get a favorable...

Why is it so hard to learn to play defense?

You may be correct. I can't really say much else without more first hand knowledge of what goes on at practice. I'd like to think (or hope) that there is at least a reasonable amount of emphasis on defense. Fran is an offense-first coach it seems, which I have no issue with, just as long as...

Why is it so hard to learn to play defense?

First, I didn't say the offense wouldn't get worse. Just not significantly worse IMO. But I say the defense can improve because of what was mentioned earlier in this thread about the team basically not practicing defense, and I'm operating under the assumption that statement is true. If it's...

Why is it so hard to learn to play defense?

I see several teams there that are Top 10-20 in BOTH adjusted offense and defense. No one can tell me that offense has to stink because they practice defense, or vice versa. It doesn't have to be a "trade".

Why is it so hard to learn to play defense?

Yes. Better defense along with our scorers would equate to more wins. I just don't believe that our offense would suffer as much as you're suggesting if they spent some time working on the other end of the floor. The two don't have to be mutually exclusive - I'm sure there are teams that are...

Why is it so hard to learn to play defense?

So they're #5 or #10 instead but with better defense. They'd be a more complete team. I'd also argue that they're #1 also in large part because they have so many weapons and are hard to guard. It's the X's and O's vs. the Jimmy's and the Joes argument.

Why is it so hard to learn to play defense?

And I couldn't care less if we have, say, the #10 offense in the nation instead of #1 if it means our defense improves from 100 to even top 40-50. I'll take that trade all day long. I don't believe Luka, etc. are going to forget how to shoot and score if they only spend half of practice...

Why is it so hard to learn to play defense?

Apparently the dial is set at 0% if the earlier comment is true. Do they really need to spend 100% of practice time on offense when they lead the country in scoring, anyway? I just don't buy that the team can't practice defense. Nobody is saying practice ONLY defense. But if they truly...

McCaffreys place in Iowa Coaching History

Correct. Seems like Fran has gotten his teams to the NCAA Tournament most of the time in recent years, and pretty much exits in the 2nd round. Sound familiar? So yeah, I agree with you about Fran and Davis being basically a tie. Fran would pass him with a Big 10 title and/or a run to the...

Drake vs. Iowa - MAKE IT HAPPEN

I'm with you. I always kind of enjoyed these games (except when Iowa lost of course). As for the "these games don't do anything for Iowa" argument that I often see, I would argue that beating someone like Maryland Eastern Shore or Coppin State by 40 in front of maybe a half full at best CHA...

    all time leading B1G scorers

They should be on the list, because they are both over 2000 point scorers. So, this list is apparently incomplete. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/steve-alford-1.html https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/scott-skiles-1.html

    RIP Lute Olson

Sad to hear this. I grew up in the 80's so my memories of him are only those of his Arizona teams kicking our butts a few times. That said, I'm well aware of his place in Hawkeye history, and he helped to pave the way for the mid 80's teams that made me such a big hawk fan to begin with...

Iowa Basketball Records That Will Never Be Broken

Hate to say it, but probably also the 30 wins in 1987 and the 18-0 start. Hard for me to see another Iowa team that elite.

    Are we getting too amped?

That's where I'm at. People SHOULD be excited for next year, but I'm also trying to be realistic about the defense. I agree with what you said - I have a hard time seeing this being a legit top 10 team and a legitemate conference title contender UNLESS the defense is markedly improved...

STORY: Looking Ahead to Big Ten Basketball's '20-21 Season, How Iowa Fits In

If Garza comes back, which sounds likely, then next year will be the most highly anticipated season since I think Recker and Evans' senior season. As it should be. Let's hope it turns out better than that. That said, some of the projections I've seen of Iowa at 5-7 nationally feels high to...

Who Was Your Favorite Hawkeye that Things Didn't Work Out in Playing Time

Agreed. Ingram had a big ten body - but hard to do a lot on one leg. Garner was like Kevin Smith version 1 - Quick as hell, but raw offensively. I remember seeing Garner air ball a free throw. Not short, but wide right. Ugly. But he may have been able to develop into a more reliable PG...
