PFF College returning B1G QB ratings

Though it will be interesting to see what tighter windows does to that perceived accuracy. I am excited and hopeful for the season, but a little wait-and-see on the passing game, still.

    Penn swimming in hot water???

The ambulatory class is fairly recent, and that was added pretty seamlessly once it become clear there was a need for it. I think incorporation of transgender classes would be similar.

Here is another interesting take on the topic and some of its challenges: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7988249/

    Penn swimming in hot water???

I think our biggest area of misunderstanding is that you are trying to tackle the issue of transgender women in female sport, and I am looking at the more complicated picture of sexual determination, conferred advantage, and how to address things globally. Simply from the perspective of...

You are wrong about the bolded part. DSD has been a much more prevalent issue over the last 3 decades in international sport. The transgender athlete is much more recent (last 5 years, or so), and there have been very few examples. Moving forward, as society becomes more accepting of individuals...

I agree completely. But you also have to deal with the masculinized XX female, otherwise they have a similar unfair advantage that you are letting slide if you are only looking at XX/XY.

No, there was no political activism surrounding this issue in the early 90s. There was a realization that XX/XY does not fully capture the primary driver of performance advantage, which is testosterone. Solely measuring testosterone also has its drawbacks: requires blood testing, can capture a...

    Penn swimming in hot water???

You are addressing the issue of the rare XY female who is getting excluded...but you are not addressing the issue of the masculinized XX female who is being included. That is a big reason why they haven't used this approach (XX/XY genotyping) for over 3 decades. They now use testosterone...

To add to my earlier reply: They used the method you suggested from 1967-1991, but they have used more advanced technology since then: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_verification_and_intersex_athletes_at_the_Olympic_Games This is a pretty good run-down of some of the challenges associated...

    Penn swimming in hot water???

Good thought, but it still doesn't work cleanly. There are some women who are XY and men who are XX. The cluster of genes that determines sex is located on the Y chromosome, known as the sex-determining region of Y (SRY). As part of the production of eggs and sperm, homologous chromosome pairs...

    The rise of dopamine culture...

I think key differences are availability and social stigma. All of the things you mention have a stigma attached to them, and they all tend to have particular times and places they are considered okay. There really isn't a stigma attached to using your smart phone, and they are available at all...

Not sure if this is legit, or if it just resonates with me because I am an old man and these damn kids won't get off my lawn. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/is-pop-culture-worse-than-ever/id1594471023?i=1000706950804

As an aside, a kid from nearby Clear Creek Amana has thrown over 190 in discus this year, and he is out around 65' in shot (he won Drake). He just committed to Iowa T&F. Another cool wrinkle of his story is that he was throwing in the 30s as a freshman...he has added 30 feet to this shot put in...

    Penn swimming in hot water???

At the time, NCAA allowed transgender women to compete as long as they had completed at least 1 year of hormone replacement therapy (Thomas had completed more than 2 before competing as a woman). Rules have since changed. Different sporting bodies have different rules, but most either ban...
