When Groce switched to a zone in the 2nd half it really seemed as though Iowa labored with it.
Illinois wasn't playing for much of anything tonight. Not as much as the Hawks anyway. Yet, Groce got more out of his guys than Fran managed to. Take from it what you will.
Well, UCLA fans won't be happy to know that Alford just lost a very important pg recruit to Illinois. Kid was said to be leaning toward UCLA until he met with John Groce. Not many coaches are going to lose a personality battle against Alford.
For Illinois this was going to happen whether Groce pushed them out or not. Ibby was not B1G material and would never have seen the court. Langford was a guy who Weber took a flyer on and has been unable to beat out anybody since he has been there.
Shaw is the interesting one. For me, he is...
Ha ha, that's what I was thinking. Even though I don't think it actually will amount to a violation.
I'm sure when he was done someone from Illinois who was with him mentioned it. That kind of thing happens when you do 20 shows in a day. He even did a couple of west coast radio stations...
This guy was Matta's top assistant at Xavier and OSU before he left for Ohio U. The word on him is that he is very engaging and wins every P.R. opportunity. Very popular with his players.
Interesting that he played high school ball for Lickliter. But, you wouldn't know it by the style of ball...
Well, in all seriousness, that's the opposite of the reality. One of the reasons Bill Self left was he no longer had the backing of the A.D. to the extent he once did. The compliance people were working overtime because Self works in the gray area of recruiting. The old AD, name escapes me...
Yeah, I agree with all of this except the part about Iowa being a better place to recruit to.
Chris Collins was being considered more for the possible opening of the northwestern job than Illinois. My brother went to Illinois and does some business with them to this day. He will tell you, as...
Did you guys see Steve Lavin say that he has sources that say Shaka Smart is the next Illinois coach? Wow, give him a couple of years with the kind of talent that Illinois brings in and thats going to make things even tougher in the B1G.
Have you seen the guys being mentioned for the Illinois job? Shaka Smart, Anthony Grant, Lorenzo Romar, Reggie Theus, etc. Not sure Fran would make that list for an interview Herby.
What was your 2nd worst nightmare? That's now your 1st.
