Last night's officials

I agree there were some bad calls.

But I also agree that the officials were very good, in totality.

Dayton tackled Gatens on one play...they called a travel. They immediately whistled a make-up over-the-back call against Dayton. They called Gatens for a first-half foul on a blown lay-up (I don't think he touched him). They called the breakaway foul on McCabe a shooting foul, despite the fact that that Dayton player was still dribbling. They called a elbow-touch foul on Marble that I didn't like on a bad fadeaway shot by #22 that I didn't see/like.

They also let everyone travel & palm the ball like crazy, but apparently none of these rules matter in college or NBA ball anymore, because no one calls it...

All in all a pretty solid night, imo...With Hightower, Sansere, & Valentine, this list would be 3 pages long...

How about the time White was body slammed on the end-line out of bounds in the second half? Was that a good no call as well?

He did not get tackled. Scrapping for the ball, Gatens pulled away and walked.

Tough call. Sure looked like Gatens was trying to foul him but missed. Not easy to call on the spot there.

You are right, they did this. Both sides, too. Oglesby has a tendency to do the moon walk when he is on the wing. Never called.

They called a few ticky-tac over the back fouls, but they called those the same both ways, so I have no problem. You are right, they were pretty good in my book. I could hear the crowd booing loud and clear and only a few of those times were they correct. But crowds boo on every call, so it doesn't bother me.

Was that the play where Gatens went to the ground with the ball bouncing on the court and they called a travel? First time I seen a travel called when the player did not even have possession of the ball. But then I remember a time White dove for a ball and slid a few feet, got tied up, and they still gave Iowa the timeout.

I agree, White definitely traveled. I didn't see the Gatens replay well enough to know if he let go of the ball before he traveled or not. He had it, and then I think he went to dribble it as he was going down, but he may not have done it in time. Hard to tell. It wasn't a foul, however.

Obviously the crowd saw a different game. It was apparent by the noise after every call, but at home and on tv we could tell it was well called. With several replays from different vantage points a lot of the questionable calls turned out to be justified.

The unstated point of my original post seems to be overlooked: given the chance to play and not having Teddy Valentine, Eddie Hightower or some of the other bright lights of B1G officiating whistling his every move, Zach McCabe is a pretty darned good player.

How did you leave Jim Burr off your list? He moved up a couple of spots on my most hated ref list this season.
