This hurts to say....

but now Hawk fans probably need to cheer for the Cyclones the rest of the season.
If we want to see our dreams of a shot at the NC game realized, this will be as good a shot as we are likely to see.
If at the end of the year we are competing with other teams for a spot as the #2 team the extra points we would get from the computers for a stronger strength of schedule could make the difference.

So go clones (holds nose)

Beating Ari, Penn St, MICH, Wisc, and tOSU should be enough as long as we win our other games by comfortable margins.

I don't think we'll have to. Our schedule is tough enough as it is. We would have several quality wins if we get that far.

I'm in the corner for ISU to have a respectable season. Any wins they come up with will be well earned. It does no good to see them do a 2-10 season. They will be better than a lot of teams that end up with better records just because of the schedule they will play.

ISU is a non factor. For us to go the NC game we have to go undefeated, and hope that the teams rated above us drop a game. We aren't going to jump any undefeated teams that are currently ranked above us regardless of what ISU does the rest of the way.

Stop thinking about ISU until next September.

If Iowa goes undefeated...and more than one other team does as well...strength of schedule will be HUGE. The margins in the BCS race can be very narrow...so those saying every little bit doesn't help are simply rationalizing. ISU going 7-5 vs going 3-8...could very well make an important difference in Iowa's BCS score.

Teams like Boise State are gonna go undefeated...and given their rank right now...it will be very hard to pass them up in the regular polls. The computer polls, which count for a third, DO figure in strength of schedule...and that's where Iowa can make up ground. In other words, Iowa needs every team they beat...to win every other possible game.

Probably right, but it is good for both teams for Iowa/ISU to sweep the rest of the season. It also couldn't hurt to have a little class... Go Hawks, Go Clones!

It's suppose to be a rival. Why wish well on your rival? OSU is enjoying Michigan's failure with a big smile. Why cant we sit back and enjoy ISU losing? Like the saying goes, I root for two teams, Iowa and the team playing ISU.

Well, I didn't go to either school... so I'm just have relatives who played for both schools... So you do what you do and I'll do what I do!

I think what maybe the OP ment was that if ISU beats some other top tier teams that might be undefeated like Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska, it would take them completely out of the N/C talk completely and give iowa a better shot. At least thats how i took it.

Iowa State isn't beating Nebraska. Or maybe you're expecting 8 turnovers again.

You know what mesa we did the same crap yesterday that we did im ames last year and we still won. Im not gonna say we will win till the game gets closer. But if were even half as good as iowa was yesterday. I dont think theres going to be a problem.

Do you ever write anything that makes sense or looks like English?

I'm with the posters that normally will cheer against ISU against any opponent. But right now, Texas, Nebraska and Okie are teams in their conference that are all rated ahead of Iowa and any of them undefeated at the end of the year would almost certainly get a bid ahead of an undefeated Iowa team.
I don't think ISU has much of a chance to beat any of those teams, but if they could...any little bit would help.
Likewise Boise should be undefeated. If it's down to them vs Iowa, I could see the ESPN hype machine (we know how they hate the B10) trumpeting BSU and affecting some of the human voters. Any edge the Hawks would have from the computers where strength of schedule matters would help.

I don't expect 8 turnovers...but I do expect to have two key starters return who were out that game. I also know how much harder it is to beat NU at Lincoln, than it is to beat them on the road. So the return of ISU's 2 best offensive players and NOT playing in Lincoln balance out the fact that we won't be seing another turnover fest.

And for the record, I don't believe that NU is anywhere near as good as Iowa. Not a single NU player would start on that Iowa front four...perhaps not in their top 5 DL because Daniel is actually just as good as Klug. NU is a good team...I certainly wouldn't argue that they don't play "good" football...Iowa is much more than that right now.

That's assuming you see ISU as a rival. Many don't, therefore we can be free to root for the underdog.

AZCyclone,
The boys wearing mustard and ketchup will lose to the bugeaters by a minimum of 17 this season. And I suspect it won't be that close.
Bestest regards,
Your pal in N.C. :D
