Dantonio - Will he be gone?

Sounds like the natives are restless in East Lansing. Article points out that MSU is 24 and 24 in last 48 games and that includes a 10-3 season after a 3 and 9 season following their trip to the CFP in 2015. For the record Iowa stands at 44 and 19 beginning with the 2015 season until now. Over the last 49 games Iowa is 32 and 17, a .65% winning record. Not that it matters to the never happy crowd.

It’s hard to believe that a coach who had his team in the CFB playoffs 4 years ago has cratered this badly. I’m loving every minute of it. Between the Rucker situation, the fake injuries, the sexual assault coverups and the Conor cook douchebagery I hate Michigan state and dantonio
 


I wonder if Phil Parker could be a candidate to replace Dantonio?

That's probably a stretch. But I wonder if they could try to steal Phil Parker away as the new DC at MSU?

Its still a what have you done for me lately world in college football. Dantonio hasn't won consistently since Pat Narduzzi left. People on this board make light of KF's ability to continue to win 8 games year after year, but Dantonio is another example that its not easy to maintain sucess over the long haul.
 


MSU would be smart to give him 2 more years to right the ship. But there is a lot of crap going on in that culture. I do not watch MSU athletics that much to know if they have a fairly new AD or Prez who would want to clean house.

MSU should be a top program. Maybe not a destination college city but lots of players to recruit in Mich, Wisc, Ohio and Illinois let alone get some pipelines set up to the south.

I wonder how Iowa would do playing in the east? Tougher to pump out those 8-4 records with that schedule and I wonder about a comparison of MSU and Iowa's pre-season warm-ups.

Sounds like MSU wants to do "better" and that would seem to be a good thing.

MSU kind of reminds me of Iowa State, punks who are always wanting to prove they are something which they aren't by trash talk and play.
 


As long as there are sexual predators that are good football players, Mark Dantonio isn't going anywhere. Job security...because he's the only coach in the B10 that would bring that trash onto his campus and endanger the coeds at his University. It also helps that the University will condone it...and try to cover it up. It's a match made in heaven. It's freaking disgusting.

I watched Dantonio's press conference after the Michigan game, where he looked beaten down, exhausted, defeated...I was laughing my ass off. Not one shred of empathy could be mustered from my being.

Yes it would. MSU needs to accept their new reality. Michigan was down from 2008-2014 because of poor HC hires. PSU and OSU went through off the field issues and coaching turmoil in 2011-2012 and MSU capitalized.

Now their the 4th best program in the East and its going to be a fight to stay there. They got a tough draw. The B1G East is a brutal division.
 


I don't think MSU will get rid of him yet in terms of an outright firing. IF he leaves it will be because he retires (his choice or not) which could be a result of not wanting to deal with some of the pressures coming his way.

As pointed out earlier even though he usually looks like crap the losing seems to be really taking his toll this year. I mean the bags under his eyes are almost Don Cheney level. He is getting older maybe it is time for him to hang em up

I doubt Iowa's record would be much different if we played in the east. Yes we'd be playing Ohio St, Penn St and Mich every year, but we would not have to play Wisconsin, Northwestern, and Purdue eve y year if we were in the east . ( We are a combined 2-7 against those three teams the last three years)

While they are in a tough division they also haven't played that great Out of Conference either. Now granted they have played better teams than Iowa, some of those losses haven't helped him especially some of the uglier loses such as BYU a few years ago and Arizona State the last two years. He is also below .500 in bowl games
 


I keep reading how tough they have it being in the East, if you look at the records since Maryland and Rutgers were added they are close to even. MSU has Rutgers, Maryland, and Indiana to beat every year while there is more parity in the West.

MSU can be a top program with the right coach. YOu wonder if Saban would have stayed there because he wanted to be the next D Daugherty where they might be. Dantonio did extremely well for a few seasons but he looks gassed like H Fry did when he got ill.

I think all you really need to do is look at Wisconsin who is without question the flag-bearer of the West division.

The haven't beaten Ohio St since 2010 (lost 7 in a row). Arguably their best team in the last 30 years, 2011 led by Wilson & Ball, was beaten by the worst Ohio St team in 30 years.

They haven't beaten PSU since 2011(lost 4 in a row).

They've split with Michigan since Harbaugh arrived.

So the no-doubt best program in the West would be in a dog-fight to be the 3rd best program in the East.

Yes but the East is extremely top heavy with tOSU and Pedo State. While Indiana has shown signs of life this year you typically can count on wins against Indiana, Maryland, and Rutgers every year. For as good as Ohio State is Rutgers is equally as bad. There is more parity in the West.

I'm guessing they'd be a 4-5/5-4 B1G team. Its not realistic that they beat Ohio St, Michigan, or PSU regularly. They can certainly beat Michigan in Kinnick. They've proven that.

MSU probably be 50/50ish series. They're still a more physical program than Iowa and Iowa would play that game in a phone booth.

I think Maryland would be a very tough place for Iowa to win. But I'd give Iowa the edge more times than not.

Before this season, Indiana would struggle to beat Iowa even in Bloomington. Going forward may be different. This is an Indiana program that physically wouldn't be pushed around by Iowa. Those days are over. And their QB & offensive play has been outclassing Iowa for years.

Rutgers, no words necessary.

Iowa has really struggled with half of the West opponents and dominated the other half so I think that would add up to a 4-5/5-4 record depending on crossover draw.

The West does have more parity top to bottom. But their top is the middle of the East.

Right now on a neutral field, with full health, I would pick Ohio St, Penn St, Michigan, & Indiana to beat every team in the West.
