Urban Meyer knew about 2015 domestic violence

Urb's wife works for the university. Huge title IX issue too. IMO something is going to happen.

I have no doubt that he knew about it and I've long thought Meyer was a piece of shit.

My post wasn't to be taken that I think he shouldn't be fired because I think he should.

What I said (and still believe) is that there's no way he gets fired over this. At worst all they have him for is lying to the media. I think he's got plausible deniability and he'll try to act stupid because the texts I've read don't really tie him to it. He'll come out of this squeaky clean just like Bob Stoops did with Joe Mixon.
Right. It'll be Meyers wife that'll bite the bullet. She'll take one for the team because Urban will just say he doesn't see her phone and that his wife never told him anything about it... Try and prove otherwise to that... Common sense says of course during pillow talk his wife told him but that don't play in court...

The ultimate issue will be the degree of autonomy the athletic department at OSU has. I think Iowa was on the leading edge of bringing other institutional constituents into the governance of the athletic department following the Pierce incident(s). I believe there is a faction of deans and profs with no interest in athletics who hold significant sway over discipline issues at Iowa and that is why a guy like Coker will get suspended and then disappear almost immediately. If there is anything involving violence against women, Iowa is very swift to take action and I think the athletic department is involved in the process but I think they have designed the discipline system so that the AD is outvoted to ensure a star ball player isn't going to harm Iowa's reputation or pocketbook from litigation.

If that fact pattern happened at Iowa, I think Ferentz would be gone within 48-72 hours - enough time to build up a case for termination for cause and gather evidence. For all of its faults, Iowa does have a best practices compliance mechanism for situations when conflicts of interest between the broader university and AD arise. After all the crap that has happened to every Big Ten school with "State" in its name, people are taking note that compliance needs to be front and center. We'll see if Ohio State is on board with that message.
Well too bad that same sort of vehicle wasn't a factor for Barta in regards to the two ladies that sued the school over him... Totally different deal I know...
But yeah I would suspect this sort of thing would put KF and most coaches on the outs...

Yeah, that's probably true.

Are there FERPA regulations that are intended to prevent her as a nurse from saying anything to her husband? And would she be considered a mandatory reporter who had to go to the authorities with this information?

What'll get a change made the fastest would be a fan upheaval brought on by the media making a huge deal over it.. Think TNs coaching search this last off season and how that went on a less serious of level. If OSUs fan base made a big enough stink over it Urban could be gone. If they mostly have his back and just win baby attitude he could still maybe get fired it could just drag on and play out longer. The selective outrage of this ME 2 stuff sure shows where most fans are on it though... Go after everyone but my coach or players!!!

Good questions... I'm not too up on whatever her gig is as a nurse exactly and if those apply to her and if so how.

It's horrible IMO - but I also know nothing is going to happen. It will be talked about for a few days and brushed aside. If Izzo and Dantonio can survive what they did - at the same school at the same time, this isn't gonna amount to much more then everyone knowing what they knew before today, that Urban's a scum bag.

Yep, Meyer is a fucking puke. He's let the likes of Aaron Herandez and Zeke Elliot on his teams and both guys had huge red flags during their time at Florida and Ohio St. Just another one it that line of creeps he lets around his programs for long periods of time.

It will be a black eye for awhile. Since the football season is starting it will be a bit harder on him than it was on Dantonio who could hide over the offseason. There will be some uncomfortable press conferences but that will probably be it.

According to the report, as an employee of a Title IX institution she was required to report this, at the very least to their Title IX department.

No way in hell Urban Meyer gets fired. No chance.
I agree. What this recent development shows is that Urban is a disgusting, slimy, pile of crap that will do anything and bend/break any rule necessary to make himself look good and win at all costs.

OSU knew that when they hired him.

Makes me realize how special a guy like Nick is. Ol Miss will bring in some classless schlub like Hugh Freeze who will miraculously have the best recruiting class in the SEC, and then Nick does it the right way and might drop a game every year or two. It hurts, but I'd rather lose with dignity than win by cheating.

From Steve Deace, sounds like Urban's wife could do jail time for covering up

Prediction: Ohio State will have an interim football coach and maybe AD here soon, depending on whether Gene Smith knew about this, too. #UrbanMeyer

Meyer’s wife was an employee of the university, so she either violated federal Title 9 law by not reporting this to the university, or she did and the university didn’t report it.

Either way, get some resumes and/or orange jumpsuits ready.

Leave it to Deace… Remember he's a Michigan fan. That said could you imagine if that's how this story starts crumbling?? That fork in the road of if she either reported it or not will be interesting... I bet there's been some serious lawyering up going on today..

It may well not, but coaches have been fired on much less. This is all a game of PR and perception for OSU. But of course coaches have gotten away with a lot more too.

Didn't that Indiana coach (Wilson) get fired for physically abusing his players and then Urban hired him as an assistant last year? Myers must have no conscious at all.

Yeah, I didn't realize what a "schlub" Hugh was until I saw that movie about him and how he got Sandra Bullock to do his recruiting for him when he was a high school coach. Can only imagine what Urban gets away with.
