Baer gets B1G Sixth Man of Year

We've had really good luck with the 6th man award. Doug Thomas, Gabe Olaseni and now Baer for sure. I think Thomas won it the first year they awarded it so it doesn't have a long history.

Not only excelling in the Big.....

Baer is the only reserve in the Big Ten with more than 200 points, at least 175 rebounds, 35 or more blocks and at least 40 steals. He became the first player in the NCAA Division I ranks this season to amass at least 200 points, 35 or more blocks, at least 40 steals and 35 made three-point field goals. Baer becomes the third Hawkeye to claim Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year honors, joining Doug Thomas in 2005-06 and Gabriel Olaseni in 2014-15.

If there is a National Award, Nicholas should be Number One.....!

All the announcers love him, constant praise......

This one's mine, Boys.....!

This is awesome. He is an inspiration for those with maybe a little less talent and a lot more want to. Hard work pays off. Great job Nick

Well deserved. Heart of the team. I love this kid. He makes me proud to be a Hawkeye.

So, a team made up of nearly all frosh and sophs, finishes in the middle of the BT pack, looked early in the year like it would be a real mess, had a couple of losing streaks that seemed to go on forever, end up with a first team all BT player, two frosh on the all BT frosh team, the 6th man of the year in the conference, and ready to welcome a highly respected recruiting class in the fall. If the NCAA selection committee has a brain in their collective heads, we can also add that to these kids' resume's a 4th consecutive Big Dance. Wahoo!

Dude, you do realize you said "brain" and "NCAA" and "committee" all in the same sentence?

This kid is the player every coach wants and needs on his team. Does everything..rebound, score, defend, hustles his butt off every time he's on the court. One of those guys can make everybody on the team better...by leading through example.

Thank you Jesus, always appreciate it when a sense of fairness is visible in life...

And thank you Mr. Baer...hard work, thinking, tenacity...you deserve it.

I think Baer is more agile and athletic than most realize...don't allow his outward appearance and stereotypes to mislead you...guy is quick and a quick jumper with strong hands.

And...he is starting to love to shoot the three...no fear.
