Baer reminds me

Hey comparing to aaron white I initially say...yea right...but the more I watch him, see him shoot, hustle, basketball savy...he is a redshirt freshman...if he plateaus the next 3 1/2 years he is a nice weapon to have. That's awesome! His shooting touch and time...and he may be regarded as the better ball player..for now...sticking with A. White in a landslide. The potential is there though. I'm impressed.

The two most hurtful words in the English language....good job. Keep striving to get better, but what a start to a career.

Reminds me a little of Chris Street as well. Probably will be better outside than Street, but maybe not as good inside, but similar effort and basketball IQ.

Of Ryan Bowen!! Damn the kid is all over the place!! Wow!!

Nick Baer as a freshman has way more finesse and court sense than Bowen did at the same stage of his career. I remembered wincing at some of the ugly offensive moves Ryan would make back in his day. As Mr. Davis said about Les Jepson guarding the inbounds passer in the press, Baer is a thing of beauty! When was the last time anyone saw a three point shot swatted into the second row, especially by a non-scholarship player against a #1 ranked MSU?

Clearly he is better offensively. However my comparison to Bowen was on how he seems to be everywhere and involved in everything it feels like when he's on the court. Iowa hasn't had that many hustle players like that and Bowen had that same type of awareness and scrappiness. He could be something very very special if he continues to improve offensively!!

I was thinking Chris Street last night, as far as the hustle and tenacity he plays with. Love his passion.
He also reminds me of White with his defensive instincts and wing span, always seems to be tipping a ball or in the right place to pick up a cheap rebound.
He plays fearless and has tremendous confidence in himself but not arrogance. He keeps this up, he could be one of the all time fan favorites to go through this program.

Side Note - I liked the lineup with him and Uthoff on the floor at the same time. Haven't seen much of that yet had we? With those two guys on the floor we have a lot of defensive length and disruption and also both can spread the floor and shoot the 3 well.

I have stated that Baer is the next Ryan Bowen. He is. The fact that Baer is reaching a level that Bowen reached, say in his JR season, speaks to Baer's potential. I think Baer has the potential to be that dead-eye 3 point sniper we've been missing. That would set him well above Bowen. I don't know that Baer will every be as good a rebounder as White or Street. I think the best comparison, for now is Bowen. Then, Baer will simply become Nicholas Baer and leave his own mark on the program.

Get him that scholly, Frannie boy!

You guys are not remembering Bowen that well... Baer has made 15 three pointers already this year.. Bowen had 18 for his CAREER.
Baer is a way more dangerous looking offensive player.

Bowen was a defensive lock down man who rebounded and hustled -like 9 rebounds a game type dude.

He is built like Uthoff... has a very similar game... lanky and can shoot - block shots on defense.

He really isn't similar to many old hawkeye players (at least non that I remember in the since the Olson era).

I think part of the reason he reminds me of White is his posture. They both kind of run in a hunched over position.
