JT Barrett Arrested for DUI

Earlier this week Urban Meyer said multiple times that he would allow his players to have the weekend off, trusting them to see their families, continue to work out, and stay out of trouble.Unfortunately for Meyer, and the Ohio State Buckeyes, the latter already was violated, as sources confirmed to Bucknuts that QB J.T. Barrett was arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired just north of campus, early Saturday morning.
Rumors of the incident matriculated around the interwebs earlier today and the story was first published by 11W, but from what 247Sports was told, Barrett blew just over the legal limit of 0.08 BAC after being pulled over by Columbus Police.
Barrett was reportedly released to teammate Cardale Jones, who will likely now be the starting quarterback for OSU for at least the Minnesota game following this week's bye week.
We'll continue to provide details for this report as they come, as well as details on what this could mean for OSU on the football field moving forward.

who amongst us has not been in his shoes as far as a few beers and then driving home?

Since it is probably Barrett's first offense, the case will be plead down to reckless operation. Barrett will lose his license for six months, fined & receive a suspended sentence.

I have no doubt that Urb will make the tough call and suspend him for the opening kickoff next game.

Naw....they'll whitewash it like they did before their bowl game a few years back....suspend it until next year.

There's a difference between having a few beers and driving home legally, and getting hammered and driving home drunk. They are not one and the same.

He blew just over the legal limit, which is pretty much still sober.

While I agree with you, the law does not. "Buzzed driving is drunk driving"

He misses one game, at most.

For some teams, depending on opponent, this would be huge. For osu, they'll just have to make do with Jones or Miller....whoa is them. Minnesota and Illinois are their next 2 opponents are Mn, Illinois....

Too bad it isn't MSU or Mich.

Doesn't matter. .09 or .20, the law is the law. And he knew what he was doing was illegal because he tried to bypass a checkpoint. He's 20, which, by OSU's own rules constitutes a violation would make it two violations which is supposed to be mandatory 2 week suspension.

But really, when you're the starting QB for the #1 ranked team in the nation trying to defend your CFP championship, why are you drinking (and then driving) on Friday night/Saturday morning before a game? That's just plain stupid.

If CJ got a DUI, what would his suspension be? one game, two games?

According to Iowa's athletic's code of conduct, CJB would not necessarily even have a suspension

Any of the following acts by a student-athlete is Category II misconduct:

  • Violation of a criminal law that is not classified as a felony by the State of Iowa, including laws pertaining to alcohol (e.g., Operating While Intoxicated -OWI; Possessing Alcohol Under the Legal Age - PAULA);
  • Violation of a term of probation imposed by a University official or Department of Athletics Administrator that does not constitute Category I misconduct;
  • Violation of a Department of Athletics policy; or
  • Violation of University policies, rules, and/or regulations, including:
    • The University of Iowa's Code of Student Life;
    • Academic dishonesty in violation of University, college, school, or department standards;
    • Violation of any University student conduct regulation; or
    • Willfully giving false and malicious information to a University official.

Sanctions for Category II misconduct may include, but are not limited to: warning, reprimand, probation with or without conditions, requirements for restitution, conditions to encourage personal rehabilitation (e.g., counseling and community service), conditions related to satisfactory academic performance, suspension from practice, suspension from competition, and/or suspension from access to athletic departmental services.
