A Kirk Ferentz petition site for removal has sprung up

Saw this posted on another site. Apologize if already posted.

Hopefully he gets it turned around or retires before it would actually come to this. Like Jon, I think you have to let the season play out before making any big decisions like that. And, as long as there are fans in the seats, Barta is not going to pull the trigger.

Barta and the athletic department don't care about performance they care about money. Only when the millions and millions of dollars quit rolling in every year will Kirk be fired before his contract is up. If it gets to that point and they have to eat the buyout I assume we will hire some bargain basement MAC coordinator to cut costs as well.

I think this site has been up for multiple years, or a site like it has been up.

Unfortunately, I think if Barta fires Ferentz it's going to make him look even worse than giving him that huge contract and then he will be done too.

Then again, when Iowa loses out the fans are going to really be calling for their heads.

I think you hit the nail on the head. If they fire KirFer and have to pay him out, the ONLY coach we'd be able to afford will be a bargain basement coach. Forget all the big names "coming home" to coach the alma mater.

Where's the fireGDGD.com? Or fireGarBar.com?

I disagree with you that we can't afford to fire him and pay for a premier coach, the IOWA athletic department is rolling in cash. They can afford it but they won't do it.

Iowa can afford to eat that contract easily.

I wish KF would just walk away on his own. I get why he doesn't. He believes he can still get it done at this level. But not many people think he can't anymore (at least not at Iowa), so he wants to prove everyone wrong. My fear is his pride will continue to bury us deeper into the hole we have fallen into. The Big 10 is not very good right now, and we haven't even played the best teams, yet we are staring at a 6-7 win season. The only word to describe that is pathetic.

Oh wait, we've all been hearing that since we lost the lead on Saturday...........

Would you walk away from 20 millions dollars? He quits he doesn't get a dime more, he gets fired he gets it all. I have been calling for Kirk to be fired for a while now but he would be crazy to quit. I really doubt he cares as much as he did but he hangs on for 5 more years and he can retire a wealthy man.

No, pathetic is Indiana, and used to be Minnesota.

I think the word you were looking for is mediocre or average. And $4M a year should get you more than just average.

My gut tells me that Kirk will be the coach for 2 more seasons and after that second season he will "retire." Iowa won't flat out "fire" Kirk but I am guessing Gary reaches an agreement with Kirk that it's time to step away. We all know Kirk is a good guy. Has done a lot for Iowa football ... Sometimes, a change is simply needed and no matter what Kirk does by bringing in new coaches, etc., that is not going to change the direction of the program. I think Kirk is a pretty sensitve guy. We have heard him get emotional in post game interviews. He wants to win. And I think Kirk will have enough respect for the program to step down in 2 more years (assuming we continue to head in the same direction) ... Just one scenario I see playing out.

I will not sign.

I'm just a guy 1000 miles away who watches the team play on Saturdays. Who the h - - am I to say who Iowa should hire or fire. I am not going to assert a "right" here. I've decided that if I get so upset about Iowa football to insist that they fire the coach, then I need to go get a life.

NCH.

That's pretty much the way I see it.

Even though Iowa has the money, they will not hire a name coach. Nor will they even try to do so. Anything else would shock me to no end.

As for this petition, I'm just about there, but I prefer to let the season play out. If Iowa goes 6-6 or 7-5, hand me the nearest pen.

More than likely he promised Mary he would stick around til Steven graduates.....Plus he still has work to do in helping BF get a HC gig or in position to get a HC job.

Probably not. But I may consider negotiating my way into half of it and then walking away. I guess it is Gary Barta, so I'm sure KF could say he is retiring and probably still find a way to get all 20 million ;) Anyway, there is no way he is leaving with his son there. I should just face the fact that we have a minimum of 2 years left of painful football.

My two cents but (1) I'm not convinced if KF leaves/gets fired that the university brings in a coach that will right the ship (2) would be really surprised if they offer anything close to the contract that KF is receiving now based on the current view that salary should be synonymous with winning and (3) I'd like to know who's interested in taking over this emotionless program before we show KF the door. It may be beneficial to keep him around a while longer to make sure we have the right man for the job. IMO to replace him just to replace him and settle for anyone would be a mistake.
