My most epic fake punt meltdown post

Like many of you, I was just incredulous when Iowa failed to protect against the fake punt. One caller on Soundoff had a good idea. When the opponent lines up to punt, it should be posted on every video board in the stadium "WATCH THE FAKE!!!" It couldn't hurt.
Even though Tommy in Des Moines, Edna in Decorah, and every person in Kinnick saw it coming. This was my post when it happened and I think it says it all.
ARE YOU ******* KIDDING ME?????????????????????????? THEY DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING??? GOD ******* DAMNIT IM SICK OF THIS ****!!!!!!!!!!!
PULL YOUR ******* HEADS OUT OF YOUR *****!!!!!!!!!!!
@#$%@%&#!@#$%#$^*&#%^#^%
What was your take?

Ditto brotha.

My take was: fool me 7 times, shame on you. Fool me 8 times, shame on me. It might be my greatest post ever.

I felt the same. Literally erased all the confidence that I had built up in the improvements I had seen in coaching this year. Soooo disappointing

I can't say I'm disappointed....Ever since Wisconsin pulled that crap a few years ago....every time the other team punts, I yell "watch the fake punt". Every time. Ask the people that sit near me. Most of the time those people look at me like I'm nuts, but then it happens, and then I'm pretty sure....they still think I'm nuts but I feel gloriously validated that I called it.

I'll admit I didn't see that one coming. It was still frustrating as hell, and it's inexcusable for a coaching staff to fail so miserably at this for so long, but I definitely wasn't watching and felt like a fake was coming.

I wasn't surprised one bit. Same goes for onsides kicks. It hurts a little less when you expect it.

Me neither TM. But I agree, it isn't acceptable.

I didn't see it coming. No one sitting around me expected it, either.

But I'm not paid $4 mill/year to look for it so I guess it doesn't matter if I saw it coming or not.

People around me were talking about how it seemed to be the perfect time for a fake and how we would fall for it. 30 seconds later, we fell for it. It's really amazing that teams don't try a fake punt or an onside kick every game. It's guaranteed to work.
While we're on Special Teams play, why can't we cover a kick?

While it's true that we don't get paid $4 million to see it coming, many of us DO look for it all the time because of the frustration we feel. Yet it was still a surprise in that situation.

It doesn't really matter if the coaches (or you or me or anyone else) saw it coming. Simply playing the percentages would have had us lined up in punt-safe or punt-block formation. (1) We fair catch almost every punt or let it roll. (2) Second string return man was on the field. (3) MSU field position at the time reduces likelihood of return. You didn't have to see the fake coming to have prevented it from occurring or stopped MSU short of a first down.

The fake punt wasn't a big deal to me. I didn't see it coming because they were completely dominating on D and I figured they would just punt and expect to get the ball back shortly.
Give the D credit for holding them to a FG after that.
