NIU very early tidbit...

So SI through together a very early top 25 for next years football season and it got me thinking. They have Northern Illinois listed at #25. I touched on this a little in the ticket pricing thread but I think, especially if NIU is ranked entering the season, that this has the perfect chance to be a 6:00pm or 7:00pm kickoff on either the BTN or something like ESPN2 or ESPNU. If you go back over the last couple of seasons, the BTN has been very liberal with scheduling kickoffs for these non-BCS games at differing times throughout the non conference weekends. I think there would actually be some interest in a game pitting a top 25 NIU team fresh off of their Orange Bowl appearance against a B1G team. A late August night kickoff would be amazing. Still warm enough that even at night you could still be in a t-shirt and sunlight until around 8:00 or so.

This would give us two night games...While this would be awesome for the fans, I don't think the University would be all that thrilled. As of now, I'd say it has 2:30 written all over it. Bring your sunblock.

Did they announce another night game that I am not aware of?

One of the conference games will be at night, won't it?

I don't know if it's a requirement. We only started doing that on a regular basis in 2009. Before that Iowa played a non conference night game against Cuse in 2007 and then the gold out against tOSU in 2006. Based on the schedule and the whole unwritten B1G rule of no night games in November, you're other options are MSU on 10/5 of jNW on 10/26.

I'm assuming that they'll have a night game against Northwestern on 10/26 for America Needs Farmers Day. I believe MSU is Homecoming on 10/5.

I was in Kinnick for the very first night game. It was against Da U, son. I think Gino Toretta won le Heisman that season. It was sort of close for a while, then teh U thugs rolled the Hox in the second half.
Bert Belimia was still a Hokk player back then.

Please confirm the legend that Acie Earl was at said game, supporting da U.

Is their QB coming back for sure? I hope not.

If they lose a lot of their O linemen, it won't matter if he comes back. If they have a good O line and he's back, then it's probable that they'll beat the hawks.

What do you think the reaction will be if they beat the hawks?

I can neither confirm nor deny. I don't recall seeing Acie at that gaem. Again, I was 5 or 6 sheets to the wind. Our seats were in the west stands, very south end.

According to the opening two deeps for NIU last season they only had 1 senior on the o-line out of all 10 listed.

If they beat the hawks then the reaction will be "here we go again, 4-8 or worse!"

I'm pretty sure the entire O Line returns.

Pretty sure they had a bunch of freshmen on the OL last year. When they played Iowa, not a single OL had ever started a game for them before.
