Says that Brands told kid he was recinding his scholarship since he wouldn't come and do a summer training session.

Like everything else there's more to the story.
How you view this situation depends on how you view what coaching should be in today's environment. Brands was irked he didn't come work out over the summer which was always an unwritten rule, and in the present day of social media those interactions get made public now. Most coaches adapt and change and don't operate the same way they did in the 90s because of kids generally being 1) snowflakes and 2) thinking they're the ones in control.
Brands has not changed and runs the program the way Gable did.
I'll leave it up to individuals to decide whether that's admirable, or stupid. Either way it doesn't help recruiting. We don't live in a world anymore where you can rule with an iron fist even if it's the way it should be.

I’d also caution listening to anything put out by Pat Mineo.
He’s a HUGE Penn State homer and hates the Brands’ and Iowa’s with a passion.
I’m not saying there wasn’t conflict with Amato and Brands because there was, but he didn’t get his scholarship rescinded. That’s not a thing once you have an offer unless something crazy happens. He decommitted. He may have decommitted because of what was said, but there’s an important distinction.
As for my personal feelings I’m torn. I’ve known the Brands well my whole life and I love their commitment to doing things the “right” way and not compromising. But unfortunately the college sports environment in 2026 isn’t conducive to that. The troops have more control than the commanding officers just because of the way things are now. It’s why I went from being a lifelong fan of Hawks wrestling and season ticket holder to a casual observer. Hate to type that but it is what it is. The sport as a whole is toast in my eyes and I don’t get much enjoyment out of it anymore.

Im a father of two boys, I am their Dad first, friend 2nd. To dam bad if you dont like it that way, thats the way it is. You Parents out there who do the opposite, maybe your the cause of all this crap. Your kid may be a good wrestler, and maybe your looking for the money (which is fine). Dont blame Brands for sticking to his guns. When your kid is out there with the team, the coaches are their dad.
In this guys report he said that Brands yelled at Bassetts Mom, well your getting paid, your an employee, if your snowflake ass parents came in to my place of business ,I would kick their ass out, and fire you.
