Wisky Loses Another LB

I remember how our D struggled when Jewell went out of the game with the targeting call. Being weak at LB can be a big deal.

I keep hearing people (mainly Wisky fans) claim they'll be all right because last year, when Cichy went out with a torn pec, the defense barely lost a step. What they fail to mention is that they still had Biegel and Watt to rely on.

I'm sorry, but unless you're Alabama, you don't lose 4 LBs in Biegel, Watt, Cichy, and Baun and still manage to not take a step or two back....

Especially when you are playing a 3-4 defense.

Even prior to these injuries I felt as if Wisky was being overrated. They have as green of a young DC being thrown in there too. I just think that they aren't head and shoulders over Iowa or Northwestern... I think Wiskys schedule is very friendly to them and maybe if they take advantage of that they'll look better than they are. But I wouldn't be surprised if they lose 2 out of 3 to Iowa Northwestern and Nebraska....

Iowa lost LBs on the 2010 team, and it really impacted that defense. Can't lose 2 starters without an effect on the team.

For years it seems like Wisky should take a step back, but I've stopped expecting it. On paper you'd think there defense will struggle with key losses and injuries, but they've seemed to be able to keep rolling somehow. (Cue comment from ....)

Dont like them, but I respect'em. F nebby and goophers tho.

That play still burns my biscuits because the kid tripped and fell right into Jewell's helmet. Vicious hit? You're damn right. Intentional? No way.

Lesson: Don't trip and fall in front of a moving Josey Jewell. He requires up to a mile to stop and impacts are usually fatal. Ask Matt Merimee if I'm kidding.

"Baun was expected to be a key contributor at outside linebacker behind starters Garret Dooley and Leon Jacobs. The Badgers were already replacing last year's starters on the outside, T.J. Wattand Vince Biegel, who are now in the NFL.

Wisconsin lost its top defensive player for the season when inside linebacker Jack Cichy went down with a knee injury two weeks into camp."

sorry to hear the kid was injured.

however at the institutional / team level - good - nice to see them have a bit of adversity for a change.

Things rarely ever go as planned in NCAA FB. It's a constant series of adjustments due to injuries.
Who would have ever thought the game day strategy for everyone playing Wisky this year = "Ground & Pound"?

I could easily see Wisconsin going 10-2/9-3 despite the injuries. Just look at the schedule.

Utah St.
FL Atlantic
@BYU
NW
@Neb
Purdue
Maryland
@illinois
@Indiana
Iowa
Michigan
@minnesota

This is why I try to refrain from getting too high or too low on teams/coaches. Our schedule this year compared to '15 is, well, no comparison. '15 team would/could have been 10-2 or 9-3 with this year's schedule, but wouldn't be remembered like it is.
