Who will be Iowa's guest game-picker?

I saw a video with these suggestions:

Ashton Kutcher
(ironically he was ISU's picker in 2021 when apparently ISU couldn't find anyone of note from their side)
Big E
Dallas Clark
Jake Johnson (no idea who he is)
A child from the children's ward
Bluder
McCollum
CC
Kittle
DeJean

I guess we won't find out if CC is available until after Thursday.

I kinda like the idea of inviting a kid from the hospital ward along with a famous celebrity. I thought Ashton Kutcher did a great job in 2021. Maybe invite him back for an encore. Team him up with the kids. That would be great.

Great idea.

I guess Jake Johnson is an actor that appeared on the TV show New Girl along with Zoey Deshenel. He grew up in illinois and then went to University of Iowa.

I would say it is bit of stretch to call him an Iowa celebrity.

I could go with Jake Johnson....IF....he's a Hawk fan.
Only because I *sometimes* find him funny. Nick from "New Girl" (funny). The Dink (OKish, but not terribly funny). You'd totally recognize him.

He attended Iowa, but did not graduate. But I guarantee he played hackey sack in front of Burge, hung out at the Deadwood, and caught shows at Gabes.

I like to think we would have been friends. Not the hackey sack part. But you know, the Deadwood thing. And catching shows.

I would assume that Kittle and DeJean will not be available, since they play the next day. They would be cool though. I also thought of Dan Gable.

I do like the idea of a kid from the hospital.
Maybe a kid and the gal that suggested the Wave. That's an outside the box move that could work.

Another outside the box would be the daughter of Lin Wang and Charles Barkley. Not sure if she's a Hawk fan. She didn't go to school there. Pretty sure she lives there and Mr. Wang lived in IC for quite some time and was involved in community oriented Iowa City goings ons. Again, no UIOWA connection, but still a great sports adjacent story that ESPN could retell if they haven't already.

I'd be OK with Lisa Bluder, if Caitlin's not available.
My other outside the box suggestion would be reunite/unite some of the women's teams....Czinano, Marshall, Davis, Stuelke, Affolter, Gyamfi, etc.

The NFL guys....Kittle, DeJean, even Wetjen.....dunno how that works this time of year. Kittle would be awesome because he knows how to..."perform". Dude understands media.

But yeah. Clark if she's available. No question.

Supposedly Caitlin is going to be in town this week for a shoe drop at Dick's Sporting Goods. But I'm not sure how long she will be here. I think it would be a long shot. That would be my #1 choice.

Yah. There's a Nike black and gold semi with Clark type references parked right across from the Pentecrest. At least there was yesterday in videos my kid sent me. No information that she's appearing. Former teammates will be around. Supposed to run Thursday through Saturday. Dick's sponsored mobile popup store. I think they'll have a temporary basketball court somewhere and some other games or something.

I mean.....I am sooooo glad for my kid. Being there and experiencing this. So electric on campus. Game Day setting up. Road closed for the long anticipated Caitlin Clark shoe drop. It's like a carnival coming to town times eleventy thousand and fueled by beer. Again, my kid will feel like Iowa and the University are at the center of the universe. I remember that feeling. I had it both good (The Dancing Fools from Iowa/Hokey Pokey/Rose Bowl) and the bad....(campus shooting, Chris Street). And even in the bad, there was obviously recognition of the horror/tragedy......but also that 'unity' and 'defiance' against horror that can happen like that brief period after 9/11. I am so happy for my kid. He, like his father, will tell the story over and over and over and over....even when he's in his mid 50s. Probably even more when he's 70 if I'm anything like my father and my son is anything like me.

She's the slam dunk. Well, maybe not slam dunk, but bomb from the logo. But I'm sure she's hoping to continue playing after Thursday. Not sure how the WNBA playoff schedule works. Course, she could foul out like last night and have an early out to any game. I'm sure Nike would love to have Clark on set on Game Day talking about her shoes. Whether money needs to change hands or not, Nike would help facilitate.

If the Fever wins Thursday, the next game would be Sunday sometime. Not sure where.

Let's bring the writer (HBO, not books) for Game of Thrones that graduated from Iowa. They could do a whole GoT intro with ominous music and everything.

And then bring a kid captain or someone from the children's hospital.

I’m 110% confident that no one outside the state of Iowa knows who Lisa Bluder is.

Truth be told there aren’t many people from this state other than Kutcher, Clark, and some NFLers who anyone is going to remotely recognize.

Give to a hospital kid.

While its a cute idea, the kid would have to be a prop for someone making an actual pick. You aren't going to stage 8 year old Jessica on live TV to make football picks. Perhaps they could find an adult who was treated at the hospital and now is well. Sort of a success story, but someone who can make football picks.

How about Zach Johnson?

Jessica is only there to pick The Hawks…that’s the point. Jessica can pick whoever she wants in every other game. No one cares.

I do like the Zach Johnson idea.
