Totally agree. This was a huge win. Pulling an upset this weekend would be even HUGER!!!Not me. Iowa controls its own destiny. The math to me is simple: they get to 10-2 they are in the playoffs. 9-3, with this schedule, won't be good enough. I don't think it matters much what our opponents do the rest of the season. The Big10 will get 3 teams in and 10-2 by Iowa will be good enough for 3rd.
Who's being negative?Iowa outcoached and out played Michigan when it counted. Stop being negative and give the players and the staff credit. We played chess and they tried to brute force checkers, and it worked.
Your team beat another team that should've demolished Iowa on paper, absolutely fair and square. Stop with the goddamn "we got lucky" bullshit. There's no luck. You either score more points than your opponent or you don't.
Coaching, discipline, and football IQ are just as much a part of football ability as a 4.3 40 or squatting 600 lbs. Michigan committing stupid penalties isn't luck for us...it's lack of football skill for them in an area we excel. Lots of Wittingham's decisions were dumb. That's not luck, it's lack of football skill where our staff excels.
I swear to god if you keep coming on HN just to harsh the mellow about KF and the Hawks anytime something good happens you're going to be the first ban hammer I've ever given out for anything other than breaking rules. Do you know how impossibly hard it is to get banned on this site? It isn't just criticism from you...you just have to come post little digs and negative shit about KF and the Hawks even when good things happen. You can't resist it.
If someone gave you $999,999 you'd bitch because it wasn't a million.
And before you start wanting to debate with me, save the keystrokes. I ain't responding. Just keep doing what you do if you want, and the next time you go to log on and can't, you'll have your final symbolic retort from me.
Urban Meyer and DiNardo last night on "Urban Analysis" did a deep dive into why Urban believes Iowa is one of the best coached teams in college football, and has been so for years.Iowa outcoached and out played Michigan when it counted. If Iowa loses to Ohio State, Iowa will have to run the table and go 11-1 to make the playoffs. If Iowa defeats Ohio State, I think 10-2 might do it, but I'm not sure. Not me. WHile I don't think our ST is terrible, in my opinion there's been times where I definitely believe we've strugglled.Kirk and his staff get all of the details right, including special teams. Have you seen a drop off in the special teams this year? I haven't.
You beat me to these things. Especially #1. James let the one drop late in the Iowa State game that almost caused a fumble (although that wasn't his fault but the refs didn't save him). That cost 10-15 yards, IIRC. And the last Michigan punt that rolled to our 9 yard line. That probably cost at least 15 yards. Those are feel difference makers and we were lucky to have pulled those games out. That needs to be fixed. I would rather have someone who will field those punts back there even if it means giving up some return yards.WHile I don't think our ST is terrible, in my opinion there's been times where I definitely believe we've strugglled.
1) Fielding punts. Too many times we haven't fielded punts that have bounced another 25 yards into our own territory. I know KF wants guys to play it safe and avoid the ball, but sometimes you have to fair catch that thing. James is the worst offender but it could be inexperience in part. Either way, you didn't see that with LeVar.
2) Kicking. Buhr made an ice cold kick to beat isu, but the missed PAT and FGs since then are REAL concerning to me. The one he missed at Michigan, we need that. That kick would've still been no good if it was 35 yards he pushed it so bad. We can't have that when games are on the line.
Dutch Treat?I swear on Sunday morning it seemed like there was a million different videos available to scroll through. From every possible angle you could imagine.
But I think we got to come up with a name that every Iowa fan would recognize. You know like "Tate to Holloway" or "seven got six". Here are some options
"The Big House catch"
"Brown to Vanderzee"
"The Michigan Karma catch"
"The Herky goes nuts on the sidelines" catch
I am sure somebody can come up with something better.
I watched that also ,good segmentUrban Meyer and DiNardo last night on "Urban Analysis" did a deep dive into why Urban believes Iowa is one of the best coached teams in college football, and has been so for years.
When a coach of Meyer's caliber compliments your coaching staff in glowing terms, you really must take that seriously.
