What I liked last nite

was in the first 25-30 minutes of that game the approach of the two teams was diametrically opposed to the teams the last couple of years.

Iowa was the aggressor, who was going to the rim,and into the paint with drives by Bryce,Devyn,Jarryd,Melsahn and even Matt.

MSU was the team that was settling for outside jump shots.

Now,granted, MSU was making those jump shots, and Iowa was not finishing those drives all that well, but it is a big change in philosophy,at least for Iowa, from the Lick approach of relying on shots from the arc as the basis for the offense.

Now, Fran clearly has to find more players that can flourish in this approach, but my buddy and I were commenting on this last nite during the game. MSU used to be more of the drive to the hoop team with their athletes, but are shooting the three more than Iowa,at least last nite.

I like the attack the paint mentality, because it is the best way to get to the line, and also to kick out and get wide open shots from the arc.

Call me,crazy, but I like Fran's approach...now,just get the players, and it will be fun bb to watch. I know, easier said than done, but at least if we get the talent, they will not be handcuffed with a pass around the perimeter til someone jacks a three system.

I loved May dribbling from the wing to the elbow, picking up his dribble, and passing everytime he got the ball. I also love the way Gatens is the best in the nation at having his three ball go in and out.

I hate to nitpick, but there was the 1 time May dribbled to the elbow, traveled, then shot the ball. There were also the 2 times at the end of the game, when the game was out of reach, that Gatens drained 2 jump shots. (I do take exception that this little blue guy with the smile and eyes is emblematic of "sarcastic guy", but it's all I got to choose from)

Did he make a good jump stop and proper chest/bounce pass with thumbs down?
