Wetjen.

Carnell Tate ran a 4.53 and he will be the 2nd or 3rd receiver that comes off the board in this year’s draft.

I thought Wetjen would run in the low 4.4(s), but running a 4.47 shouldn’t hurt him. He will probably run in the low 4.4(s) at the Iowa pro day.

I see that Wetjen ran a 4.47 40 at the NFL combine. I know nothing about track speed -- how quick is that and how did he stack up with other combine WRs?

think of 4.4 as ok average. Under 4.4 is smoking fast. above is disapointing.

He hits his full speed in like 3 steps.
This! That was why he was so dangerous his top end may not be elite but his acceleration with pads on is crazy fast. The 40 times this year for several positions are just ridiculous. I think there is a correlation between these faster times and how many knee and achilles injuries we are seeing combines with the turf. The torque and power these guys have now is too much for the body

Punt returning is mostly quickness and he’s got it. He should be a solid ST guy for a while, maybe a sweep on offense here and there.

Hmmm. Seems like quite the knife's edge between "smoking fast" and "disappointing.
Saw Wetjen run a few times at state HS meet, what strikes me about him is he wasn't a world beater in the 100m and 200m. He was good, but his 100m PR was 11.08 and looking at MileSplit he usually ran about 11.15 to 11.20. That kid has some serious acceleration if he's running that 40 time compared to his historical 100m's. That 40 translates to about a 10.85 100m. Dude gets out of the blocks and vertical REAL fast.

He's fast enough... Is he the fastest guy among the fast guys? Evidently not. But he's plenty fast enough that he's out running guys that have an angle on him a lot. His initial burst is what I think separates him. It doesn't take him long to get to top speed and that's what makes him so tough to touch on punt returns. I think he wanted to run closer to a 4.4 flat or better but there's no shame in his time. It won't hurt him

With returners its much more about quickness and cuts than straightline speed. The entire defense is running at you, if you get past them its unusual to get run down from behind as the defenders momentum is the other way. But, even if KW were to break through and return a kickoff 95 yards and get caught on the 5, pretty sure most coaches would be just fine with that outcome. He has the instincts and moves. That is what it takes to return kicks.

Wetjen has the eyes and that's what's most important in his role. I watched several of those games from high up in the stands and from there we can all see where the holes and angles are at, but when you're on the field it's almost impossible for mere mortals to see. Not only that but you have to react instantly once you see them. Tim Dwight is the only person in an Iowa uniform who had that same ability, and Wetjen is better than Dwight was. A 4.4 40 is plenty good.

Coop was pretty special back there as well. He only did punts, but Coop had pretty amazing moves. We have been spoiled the last few years.

And it wasn't a fair catch.

Also to add both he and Dejean had massive balls. It takes a lot to stand back there with guys running full speed at you and not call a fair catch. Both those guys had some great returns with guys right in their faces when most other returners would have calls for a fair catch
