Does anybody know Carfino's nationality?

And I'm not flaming, I'm seriously curious. I loved me some Steve Carfino back in the days when Iowa basketball was rockin'.

I'm thinking Guerrero could bring some of that Bellflower Cali action back to the Hawks!!

I'm pretty sure his nationality is American.

Carfino was awesome. He played before the 3 pt line IIRC. Anyone remember that sick 360 he did for a lay-up? (maybe against OSU. It seems the opponent wore red). Not a 360-type dunk but, it was a fast break 1-on-1 to left side of basket and the defender flashed past him to his left swiping at ball and Carfino instinctively did a 360 to avoid the defender and laid it up and in. The 360 was in the air, not a 360 dribble move. It was a thing of beauty!

I think you're right. He has a seemingly italian, non-hispanic name but looks hispanic.

I say the brother is American.

No you don't understand. His nationality is American because he was born here. I have no idea what his ethincity is. Those are two different questions.

I was asking his ethnicity but since you're being the ultra-cool guy you are, you should learn how to spell it. I think you knew the intent of my question but I suppose if we're being tested on the Hawkeyenation forum, I stand corrected.

Don't confuse citizenship with nationality. Unless he is Crow, Apache, etc., Carfino is not American. I may be a citizen of the United States, but I'm 100% Swedish.

I can't believe we're arguing semantics (well, I can), but anyone born in these here United States should consider it their nationality. It is, by definition, your status of being from a specific nation. It can also apply to your heritage, but that doesn't make one "more right" than the other.

The morbidly obese guy is right.

Citizenship is separate from nationality is separate from ethnicity. I can be an Iraqi national, of Kurdish ethnicity, and an American citizen all at the same time.

Take us back to yesteryear. Reportedly the first to hit a three in the new Carver Hawkeye. By the way, does he have any eligibility left?

Literally the earliest memory I have, not of the Hawkeyes but of life itself, is watching Steve Carfino on TV while sitting in my basement in Iowa City with my father. Cue the Round-Up commercial.

God I miss the Hawks. For some reason, it has hurt more this winter than most. My gut tells me that's because Fran is the real deal and we are close, so close, to making a run in March again.

For those of us who grew up in the '80s, Hayden and the Rose Bowls are burned into our memories, but at the time, I think the basketball team held an even more special place in our hearts. March was magical.

Wow, a pic of the Wayback Machine, that takes me, well, way back.

Carfino was awesome. I have an autographed mini basketball signed by him. It was my first UI autograph. Still my favorite.
Everybody in the state of Iowa (seemed like everybody) tuned in at 7:00 to watch the high flyin' Hawks. Man those were good times.
Now thanks to ESPN, BTN, etc. who knows when the games will be on?
Thanks for the mammories.;)
