Starting QB

Not surprised but quite disappointed if Ferentz starts Brown.

Ferentz has made this mistake over and over again, playing the traditional immobile pocket passer over the better athlete: Banks, Stanzi and Beathard all sat on the bench while inferior athletes played ahead of them.

Hecklinski is a special athlete and should be the starter.

Start Brown against ISU and you get beat. Write it down.

Ferentz drives me nuts on this quarterback stuff.

Let's be honest: we all saw what we saw on Kid's Day. If Brown starts, there's going to be grumbling in the stands, and I will be one of them. If the 'competition' is even remotely close, Heck should get the call because he potentially has a full year longer to be at the helm.

We saw Brown in a game last season, and he failed the test.
We saw Brown in the latest Kid's Day with fans in the stands, and he failed that test too.

Heck was given a chance on Kid's Day and lit it up.
Why not give Heck the start and see how he handles it?

I generally agree. But, however small the gap must be, whoever takes the first snap is the leader in the clubhouse. And, the reps are not going to be given out mathematically. It will be more feel. There is certainly a possibility of "you make it, you take it." The guy who starts has the chance to show he belongs as the starter and should stay on the field.
This.

Honestly I don’t have a big issue if they ran a 2 QB set
If I was a coach I would have a package for my back-up QB every game. Give the backup a 4-6 play packages in the second quarter with a gimmick or two and see how he performs. The earth will not crumble if you rotate a second QB into the game.

Don't not understand why KF has painted himself into this silly frenzy over who starts. If you are truly planning on going with this 2 QB strategy which he apparently has, just state it doesn't matter who starts, we are playing both QB's and simply flipping a coin to see who goes first. It is so stupid it leads me to believe something weird is going on behind the scenes and they feel forced to proceed this way for now.

We really don't know that he's a special athlete, it's all hearsay up till we see it with our own eyes IMO

There are different schools of thought when it comes to QBs. Some believe that sending the message to the QB that the leash is short and there are guys behind you that want the job brings out the best focus and results (Jeff Brohm, Brian Kelly, etc.), and those that believe settling on one early on, and being patient while he gains as much experience as possible, promotes the best offensive continuity.

Kirk is an extreme version of the latter. In fact, I would wager that the only reason we haven't had a starter named and that there is a plan to play more than one going into the opener is due to pressure from Lester and other coaches. That's simply not Kirk's comfort zone.

I believe that Lester and KF disagree on who to play, so they have decided to let it play out on the field. Brown has looked crisp in practice. He has withered in higher pressure situations. Heck has been less consistent. KF trusts his eyes over time. Lester trusts his instincts. KF is not going to force Lester to play the wrong guy, so I think they are both hoping that the performance Saturday will settle the matter.

The first three games are basically pre-season games.
Whoever starts @ Michigan will be the starter (barring injury) the rest of the year.
We can look at them as preseason games, but if we don't get one of the QB's figuring things out by the trip to the Big House we may be out of the conference race before it even starts.

I'll go ahead and say that I've started to hate QB battles coming out of camp. IMO over time we've went from optimism about two QB's that have high ceilings to realizing that it's neck and neck because neither have played enough to separate himself from the next guy.

I'm tired of it. I just want a clear favorite going into week one that's won the position because he's out performed the other during the spring, summer workouts, and distanced himself during the preseason to the point they had a strangle hold on the competition.

It pains me to say but until I see things differently under center I've accepted the fact were not going to be in a position where we have two elite QB's on the roster battling it out for who gets to be the guy.

I'm in the minority here but I will give this competition a game or two to play out and see who the best guy is. I wish either one of them would have risen above the other and claimed the job but I will take Tim Lester's word on this and see what happens. Like many others I like Hecklinski for the job. But I'm willing to wait and see which guy can grab it and run with it. I don't think it's panic time yet.

Too much drama. If Brown starts, the HC and the OC agreed to it. Does that mean they have decided longer term? Nope.
