Starting QB

Posters on the other board are stating that word is leaking out that Brown will start Saturday. He "started" Kids Day so I guess nothing too shocking there. We will see how it all plays out.

Given the opponent there is a 100% chance we see significant reps out of both of them. The term starter as it applies to this game is a semantic technicality.

I generally agree. But, however small the gap must be, whoever takes the first snap is the leader in the clubhouse. And, the reps are not going to be given out mathematically. It will be more feel. There is certainly a possibility of "you make it, you take it." The guy who starts has the chance to show he belongs as the starter and should stay on the field.

I think I am actually ok with this. I have not been shy that I am a Heck guy. But, whomever starts will have the most pressure, and this is the first game and everyone out there is nervous and a little tight. Iowa has never been a great team out of the gates offensively. I think starting Brown, with all the pressure, and the crowd probably not too patient with Brown's play, puts the max pressure on Brown to show if he can perform under the spotlight, or if he has the yips and is nervy. To me, that is what needs to be sussed out. Clearly, Brown is the better QB in practice. KF and Lester need to know whether they can get him to translate that into game day performance. So, start him. Sink or swim. Heck will be ready to show his stuff and probably has a chip on his shoulder.

It is what it is. Like they say, you p*ss with the **** you got. I'm not losing any sleep over it...as has always been my approach I go into every season with spectacularly low expectations and then I can't be disappointed.

The first three games are basically pre-season games.
Whoever starts @ Michigan will be the starter (barring injury) the rest of the year.

Well, I got another saying to trot out on the golf course. LOL. Never heard that one.

To that saying, there is a lot of pressure on Lester to get one of these clunkers to run. Iowa expressly chose not to go into the portal and instead stand on what they had. That decision will loom large against Lester and KF if we are vacillating between Deacon Hill and Jackson Stratton all year.....

If we wait until Michigan to name a starter, we are in trouble. This offense needs a leader and team reps to get ready to play a foe like Michigan in the Big House. And I would not just mark The Clowns as a for sure win. We have lost to that shit show of a program many years when they had no business being on the field with Iowa. Iowa needs to find a QB on Saturday, IMHO.

A few pundits have reported they think Heck seemed to be a bit off or like kind of pizzed at the team interviews this week. Perhaps this explains it.

This very well could be a litmus test for Brown. Have him go first and see if he can handle the pressure. If I were Heck, I wouldn't let it bother me too much and when get's his chance just do his thang! It will all work out in the end.

Melrose, I heard that as well. Hopefully, Heck has a chip on his shoulder and performs when he has the ball. If Saturday in any way shape or form resembles Kid's Day, this competition will be over and the job his.

Give the kid a chance!! You can bet a QB will go down this season I'm rooting for whoever's in there!! We don't want to run one off to the Portal before he's failed. And that might be part of the indecision on the coaching staff new world we live in.

Agree. Hopefully, all Iowa fans will support whoever is out there and be patient.

That said, the most popular player on every football team is the backup QB......

most of experts on line have ranked Iowa QB last in Big Ten After watching some of Rutgers game they may have to move us up a notch

LOL. Yes. That was embarassing. We never should have added Rutgers. Think of all the cool teams that could be part of the conference instead of that turd factory.

ISU isn't going to be the cakewalk some think. (I'd love nothing more than to be completely wrong and see the Hawks thrash them).
But this team is too young to take any games for granted.
