SI and CBS misleading.

They should have looked at how many student athletes had criminal backgrounds PRIOR to stepping onto their school's campus. That would be the TRUE test. I am sure they did and that is why it took 6 months. They probably didn't have the statistcis to make a story so they went back and played with the numbers. Journalism is so disapointing these days. Everyone is trying to create their Whitewater instead of finding one.

haha, yes. I don't get this study. There are a million things wrong with this. But the big one is the correlation between a drinking citation and prior issues. Do you think a background check of high schoolers are going to reveal anything? Not very much. Kids get in trouble drinking. heck our old pastor's kid was an "angel" in high school, but got to college and drunk all the time, many citations. Doesn't mean anything. funny and pointless "research" and I use that term very loosely.

The biggest problem is they count charges that were dropped.

I agree, I think that it is outrageously misleading to not only lump all crimes together but to lump charges that were dropped right in there along with the convictions and guilty pleas.

If SI and CBS have any shred of ethics left they will fire everyone that had anything to do with that article.

Overblown tripe coming from SI...when you lack real news you make it up! That's what sells newspapers.

Are you kidding me with all the S T that goes on in the SEC and we're talking about 13 kids picked up for an MIP!? Give me a break.

I guess I am bored this morning to be going back to this piece of misguided journalism, but here I am. This article was so poorly written and equally poorly thought out that it amazes me it got published. On the other hand its all about the headlines anymore. Even if the story has no merit. I am sure a lot of people will start throwing stones at us without even reading the article. Take a look at the Bleacher Report and you will see the same kind of sensationalism in their headlines each week. As far as screening incoming HS seniors, when do you go even further and get to the grade schools and junior highs? I read a recent article where a mentally challenged boy in grade school was arrested 8 times for battery on his teacher. Talk about headline grabbing. We are fine at Iowa and we are the same or better than 95% of the campus' out there. I miss those cold Old Milwaukees from my freshman year. Oh, I just admitted I was a CRIMINAL!!!!
