Section136's Thoughts

Lomax is going to get picked on all year. He gave up a wide open TD to make it 10-0 and was burnt again down the sideline but luckily the ball went right through the WR's hands on a 3rd down.

Rudock lost the game with 2 throws. His underthrow of Powell should have been 6 points and Iowa only got a FG out of it. And of course the INT in the 4th that led to the game winning FG. I dont mention the flea flicker because Iowa scored a touchdown on that drive.

Iowa should be able to run the ball against pretty much everybody this year.

Blythe looked exceptional at center.

LB's actually exceeded my expectations in this game. Hitchens and Kirskey especially.

Not as bad of a loss as some are making it to be. I am actually fairly confident the Hawks will be 5-1 heading into Columbus.

Lomax is a So. I thnk we'll see good and bad from him and he'll end up being a pretty good ball player IMO.

There were a lot of "ordinary" plays that could have been better on closer reivew.

A lot of drives stalled because of poor execution in the passing game or blocking breakdowns.

So, there is a lot that will improve.

What was Lomax' injury? He might be out awhile. He won't improve sitting on the bench so iowa plays a true frosh in his place. Is Fleming hurt?

I wish we had better talent at RB. These guys need big holes and those may be had to come by.

Talent at RB is fine. The running game would be the aspect that I am least worried about right now.
Depth is great. I feel like Canzeri should get a few more touches though as he might provide the big play aspect that the others don't.

I wish I had more confidence in Iowa to win close games, hopefully it is like '08 and the light bulb comes on.

Officially given up on the tight ends, not sure exactly what is going on if they are not getting open, not the primary option, not sure what. It would help if they were more part of the passing game, at this point I am not counting on it-it looks like KMM will be doing the dirty work inside.

7-5 is still on the table, but they are going to have upset someone on the back end of that schedule, hopefully it is Nebraska.

Not worried about RB's either. At the same time, don't see any big plays coming from RB position.

I thought we only got a field goal on the flea flicker drive, and a TD on the longer drive.

Lomax did blow coverages. Not sure if he was benched or hurt later in the game. King wasn't too bad in his place.

I don't dislike the playcall on the last int. If he makes that throw (the throw was late/behind), KMM gets out of bounds and only 5 seconds burns off the clock.

Running game was good. Over 200 yds. Both backs contributed very well; and appeared to see the field pretty well.

Something to chew on... Does the Hebrew Hammer rush for 100+ yds every game this year, ala Greene? Tune in to find out.

I share your optimism heading into OSU game (5-1). The MSU game likely will be a low scoring defensive battle before the bye.

Lomax didn't really get burned on the one ball along the sideline, I didn't think. He had pretty damn good coverage, but Lynch made a perfect throw that the receiver dropped. A great throw beats great coverage every time.

This is true, I only watched lynch last year in the first game against the hawks and his passing skills looked rough. I was very surprised with his accuracy.

NIU could be 12-0 this year.

Lomax had pretty good coverage on initial WR moves but he got burned on the double moves.

And we arent sure of the coverage scheme and if he was supposed to pass a receiver off to a safety (not iowa's usual sop).

Lomax did get burned once and recovered very well to break up that pass in the endzone.

Watching lomax getting picked on reminded me when antwan allen was getting worked when he first got in. Painful, hopefully it changes and it becomes a bright spot.

and run him to the WIDE side of the field...not the short side twice in a row. That was perplexing

Lomax was going to get picked on no matter what. You won't make a living throwing at Blow Job Lowery. Lowery was great yesterday and I don't think the blown assignment was his (pun intended). Lowdermilk was caught looking in the backfield. Go back and watch that play...Lowdermilk doesn't even make a break outside until the ball is thrown and there were two receivers over there. I think Lowery broke inside cause he thought Lowdermilk blew the coverage and his guy was the one who ended up catching the touchdown.

Agreed. Lowery was stuck covering the two guys (both of whom were deeper than the safety-not good). Lowery almost recovered, however. Also, that's the play he was hurt on.

And, I'm not sure about that nickname. Might receive a frown from the Diesel.

Lowery did mess up they were in a cover four and he was caught watching the qbs eyes and went inside. Lowdermilk wasn't in the best position but he was in his fourth of the field where as lowery wasn't. Lowdermilk shouldn't be breaking outside in a cover 4 until the ball is thrown because he has the inside and the cb has the outside. Lowery played well minus that play.
