Recruiting grind to a halt

After a really good start we have almost been shut out in past several weeks. Finished second on a couple but it is starting to look like a bleak year for recruiting. I just wonder if Ferentz age is catching up? Well maybe the portal will be the answer

Recruiting in football has taken a back row seat to the portal. That’s where the time and money is spent. Unless you have a die hard in state kid you’re wasting time that could be spent making portal deals.

I wonder if that theory applies to Ohio State Texas Oregon and the other top programs or just to the second tier programs like Iowa

It's hard to recruit 2 years out now when a kid can change his mind due to more money being offered by a high-budget school (at last minute). Sure, you can recruit them and they can commit but it doesn't mean anything till they are on campus or on the field. It's a sad testimony to collegiate athletics

I saw some video of the running back from Indiana; He has real good zone cut back skills!! He reminded me of Fred Russell only he's 200+lbs Could be a real nice fit :)

The change to a 5-year eligibility rule, coupled with the rosters limits, has really slowed high school recruiting. Schools like Iowa always need a pipeline, but we have a small senior class and some of them could end up staying.

This will be a problem for most schools. Pretty much everyone on every roster can return next season. There are only so many seats in the boat.

Wonder what’s going on with Tavion.

Football is a tricky sport to recruit because it is so physical and the sheer numbers. There are a lot of kids that just aren’t developed when big recruiting is going on and then you have many of the 4-5 star kids that are men among boys which Iowa typically isn’t in play so we are after the lower level athletic kids that just needs development and the portal opens a new dimension to see how kids grew and worked. I never valued the recruiting sites much and even less now with the portal

A group of seniors from last year just filed suit in federal court in Colorado trying to get an extra year this year. Can you imagine if they win, the next lawsuit will be from kids 4 years ago that did not get a 5th year? Running college athletics through lawyers and the courts is such a bad idea. This is coming from a lawyer....

I’d like to go back and play baseball for my high school team that I played for and eventually coached. Do you know a guy?

I absolutely have no desire to go back and use a final year of college eligibility running the 800. F that. That's a young man's game.

I am only half kidding when I say your lawsuit probably has a 50/50 shot of winning. All you need is a hometown judge and a half cocked legal theory.

And some skill obviously, which rules out my chances
