Rate Bowl changes name back to Cactus and moves

Since it's slow here in HN I thought I'd throw some bowl trivia along which has some Hawkeye side notes.

The Rate Bowl is changing names and switching identities, heading back to a familiar place. It's now the Cactus Bowl and it will now be played at Mountain America Stadium (Sun Devil Stadium) in Tempe instead of Chase Field in downtown Phoenix.

Originally the Copper Bowl in Tucson, it moved to Tempe and became the Insight Bowl for some years and the Cactus Bowl for some years. The Hawks have played in it three times, twice as the Insight Bowl where we won and lost a game. Who remembers those two?

The most-attended game in Cactus Bowl history came in 2011, when Oklahoma defeated Iowa in Tempe before 54,247 fans. So, we have some good history here.

The Cactus Bowl — college football’s only postseason game between the Big Ten and Big 12 — will be played this season on Saturday, Dec. 26 at 5:30 p.m. MST as part of ABC Saturday Night Football in prime time, in addition to ESPN’s digital platforms.

I remember it being the Copper Bowl and of course the Insight Bowl, but I don't ever remember it being the Cactus Bowl. But that's ok, its had so many different names I have since forgotten, I am sure it was called the Cactus Bowl at some point.

I was at the 2011 game.

Due to work demands, I took off from Moline in the late morning of the actual game, and amazingly made it to Sky Harbor on time, and thus, the game on time.

Leading rusher Coker had been suspended.

Iowa "won" the first quarter stat-wise, but was behind 7-0. I thought "uh oh" we're in trouble.
And unfortunately I was correct.
