Put Wadley in the slot on third down

Assuming everyone is healthy, don't we look a little dangerous on third down with Vandeberg at WR, Wadley in the slot and the new RB from Nevada at running back on third down (who is a great blocker). Doesn't that seem obvious?

I forget which thread, but a while back I said that Wadley reminds me of Ronnie Harmon. Use all of his talents, and by doing so you free up more opportunities to put James Butler on the field.

I have a feeling that this will be just one of the formations used on 3rd down with both Wadley & Butler on the field together.

After the events of the past week, I think its best for Akrum Wadley to reconsider his future and his decision to return to Iowa. It is still not too late for him to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft, and after all the stuff thats happened as far as changing the offensive coordinator, the new Quarterbacks coach, and bringing in another player to take his spot in the 2-deeps, it is clear that he has no other choice. Thanks Akrum for all you have done for Iowa Football and good luck at the next level.

Over/under Wadley catches 15 passes this year? Right now I will say it is a push. We have to go back to Wegher/a-rob that Iowa had rb(s) catching the ball out of the backfield.

BF/Kok convincing the old man to be this radical could be a hard sell.:)

For the Love of God all I really ask for is just don't Damon Powell him. I know, there were stories floating around about him not learning routes, couldn't block. But the kid was a burner and could have at least ran some fly or quick outs or something. I can really only remember one kick ass play he had.

... and if Fant or one of the other TEs can emerge as a reliable receiving option that could add another dimension for DCs to think about.

I'll take the over.

Well Wadley had 36 receptions last year ... I'll take the over.

Wow. I didn't realize he had that many. Other than maybe McCarron I thought everyone one else was in the teens.

So you are saying Iowa's passing attack was pretty explosive last year?:)

What is the possibility we see both Butler & Wadley returning kicks?

I don't know the answer but wasn't Young/Vandeberg listed on the latest depth chart? I would prefer Vandeberg not do it seeing as he is our only proven commodity at WR.

If its 3rd and short I'd just put Wadley and Butler in a split formation in the backfield. Either could go out for a pass, either could stay and block, either could take a handoff. If Butler is as good as we think he is, the possibilities are numerous.

disagree, here. AW is not a full-time rb in the NFL. What he is, is a hybrid rb/wr back. The Steelers did this a lot last season. They would bring in their top 2 rb's and then use one in the slot. having a rb with speed going over the middle puts him on a lb and keeps the safety riveted to the ground having to see if the rb goes deep middle. but this is going to be AW's role in the NFL. That is why he came back and I am hoping against hope Iowa has both AW and JB on the field at the same time. Let's retire the fb position to a large degree. in my opinion, having the fb is a big Tell for Iowa's offense.

Wadley now will get less touches which means he has less chance of a serious injury, all which helps his draft outlook. He'll still be the primary back and get enough touches though to impress NFL scouts. Win-win for AW.

He'll have that in 3 games. They guy had 36 last year alone.

Wadley, If you are reading this, LET ME REPRESENT YOU! I will only charge 40% of your signing bonus and salary, and only 70% of your endorsements and appearance fees. I have Reebok on the phone. Or maybe its a phone shaped like a shoe. A Reebok shoe. Anyway, Lets do this and be legends man!

I'd say on a 1 to 10 scale last years passing attack was a 2. Luckily we had a couple 1000 yard rushers.
