Portal news, rumors, wishlist...

Then make coaches sit out a year if they try to leave for another school while still under contract.
I don't have a problem with that. Or at least, have a painful buyout.

Coaching movement is not so grandiose. Its not like every coach, every year, enters a portal and says I am a complete free agent. It is more complicated than that.

I don't begrudge these kids making coin, but rebuilding a roster every year makes the product less attractive to me. I just would like to see some order.

If your coach leaves, you can transfer and play right away. Real hardship with release from current team, same. Beyond that, sitting out a year is not unreasonable.

Then make coaches sit out a year if they try to leave for another school while still under contract.
Apples and oranges.

The vast number of coaches' contracts are replete with restrictive covenants and buy-out clauses. Leaving while under contract generally results in (occasionally huge) financial penalties, usually absorbed by the new school.

The current portal/NIL system carries minimal if any consequence for the player. Barring some type of congressional legislation, the only anti-trust exemption that reasonably fits is the current NFL model based upon formation of an association, with collective bargaining and a salary-cap structure.

Buddy from high school currently on a plane with Folgueiras, departing O'Hare for Crapids shortly. Seems likely to have been visiting a campus somewhere. But also wearing Hawkeye gear. Buddy said he'd try chatting him up once they are in the airport. End of report.

Rumor is Iowa has strong interest in McKeever.

Given its history with mega-big centers, it would be hard to bet against Purdue here, but you never know.

49% from the field. OK
.6 blocks/game OK
8.7 rebounds Good
7'3", 285. Talk about a space eater.

Liberty SG Brett Decker Jr (Soph. 6'3" / 190lbs)
MIN. 33.6 / FG% 49.9 / 3PT% 47.1 / FT% 84.8 / REB 2.6 / PTS 16.9

Saint Mary's C Andrew McKeever (Soph. 7'2" / 285lbs)
MIN.23.2 . FG% 50 / 3PT% 0 / FT% 62.8 / REB 9.2 / PTS 8.2
(IMHO, if you are 7'2", your FG% should be 60%+)

.6 block stands out but not critiquing I did read he was pretty good pic and roller

...per Dear Old Gold, "A sharpshooting transfer from East Tennessee State said he has heard from the Hawkeyes".

Man, if we could land these two and keep Folg we would have a salty Top 8 rotation.

Dear Old gold was touting a Owen Freeman reunion yesterday ...... humm
As stated in another thread, I don't see a rationale for interest either way here. But, if Freeman were available on a bargain contract and expressed the right attitude, I would take him for at least some depth. We are lacking size.

He chatted Folgueiras up getting off the plane - asked him if he was planning on "running it back" next year. Alvaro laughed and said "we'll see."

That doesn't exactly sound like he'll be back. I think he's gone.

Yes, the vibe has not been awesome all year with him and Ben. I suspect you are correct that he is at least kicking the tires on better money and situations. He has entered the portal yet, so there is some hope that Iowa could still be the best place for him next season. I would bet not though.

My guess is that BM would love to have Folgueiras back, but, as with all of these situations, it boils down to a frank discussion about the team's assessment of the player's value versus the market value.

If the NFL system has proved anything, it's that a pragmatic market-savvy approach generally pays off in the long run. Overpaying for short term gain, is just that - short term.

Really need to find a way to keep Folguerias around.

It really sucks that these players have to make these decisions based on money. I don't blame them though, I'd probably do the same, but it sucks.
I'd rather keep Banks around.

Mac has been very clear about keeping or recruiting moody players. Not that Mac can't work that out of the kid, but kids have got to be willing to adapt and change. I like the offensive side of Coffee (my nick name for him as his name reminds me of the product Folgers Coffee) but he does need to be more consistent. The Illinois game was evident of this weakness.

Seems to be the route KF is taking in football. Develop your high school kids and supplement with lower level college transfers that are outplaying their current level of competition.
"and supplement with lower level college transfers"

Not sure how to take this comment towards KF.

Personally I think the whole staff could use a week or two down in Indiana to learn how to revive a program that is stuck in a rut. Now don't go jumping off the building. I've already said many times the KF is a good coach. However if after 25 years people don't realize we have reached the ceiling with this staff I just don't know what to say.

Yes, it's a respectable ceiling, but the room above our ceiling is where the Big Boy's are playing for a natty. We get to sit on the coach and watch TV in our motel room and listen to all the partying going on in the room above us. We need to knock a hole in that damn ceiling or pay for a better room.
