I know they weren't full on tackling, but he hit the hole hard and grinded after contact. Looks like a good one!!

I lean this way as well. He has had a lot of carries and is an effective runner, but I cannot remember a wow moment. Would love to find a RB who can bust some long runs.

Moulton is a nice player, but I think L.J. is RB1. If not for week 1, then soon after.
Nearly 2,000 yards at 6.5 yards a pop is crazy production. And 0 fumbles lost. FCS is pretty high level football, and now he'll be running behind some future NFL linemen.
He is Kirk's ideal running back. A little bit heavier version of Fred Russell, who might be Kirk's favorite RB over the years.

Loved Freddie, but the holes that line would make were big enough that Fry could get through them. That OL could zone block better as a unit than any team I ever watched. This year's OL has a sneaky chance to be one of KF's best as well.

I thought akrum Wadley was KF's favorite. Oh wait, I guess he was my favorite but Wadley always seemed to be in Kirk's doghouse.
I guess Iowa fans got a little spoiled with Kaleb Johnson a couple years ago. He seemed to be the perfect balance of speed, strength, and balance. I was really surprised Kaleb bombed out so quickly in the pros. I really thought he was going to do well with the Steelers.

The thing about Freddie is that is size actually benefited him. The defense had a hard time finding & pinpointing on him. He lined up like 7 yrds behind the line and as you point out the O-line would open a gap and by the time the defense located him he'd be downfield.
Kaleb is only in his second year. He did not have a good rookie season. It seems like they lost all trust in him after he fumbled a kickoff into the end zone for an opponents score. This will be a big year for him. He needs to advance and start getting some carries. There is a new coaching staff in Pittsburgh so that may or may not help him.

That OL, plus Dallas Clark were all like 6'4. The pictures of them in the huddle next to 5'6 Freddie were awesome. A lot of times Freddie did not have contact until he found the safety.
I agree Moulton is just a little bigger version of what Wadley was to me. And Phillips seems to be built more like Shonn Greene and has a similar running style. Slashers that can make guys miss are great and all but having a guy that can break a tackle from two dudes at once and always falls forward is pretty nice too.
I just think Phillips running style fits better with our running game too. I think Moulton will get his shot to start off the season. And if he puts up some big numbers and looks good doing it he'll keep his starting role. But if for some reason he doesn't and it looks like a struggle for him to do much I don't think they'll hesitate to give Phillips the lions share of the touches by the time we play Iowa State
