If the only two guys BMC was looking at in the portal were Coon and Roberts (which is obviously not the case), I'm going after Coon.

Yeah thinking all these guys will come back just isn't super likely, IMO. Depending on what happens in the dance from here on out, of course.

I didn't say she didn't make the NCAA but she didn't have the consistent deep runs in the tourney but did have that Elite 8. She was a great coach at Iowa. I don't want anybody to think I didn't appreciate her or thought otherwise. Just saying JJ is off to a terrific start compared to most women's coaches in the past.

That may be the case, and I expect some attrition as it's impossible to be 100%....but 5 players followed the coach here from Drake, other players committed to Drake, came to Iowa to play for him. I'll be shocked if Iowa has more than 1 or 2 kids leave and I think that will kind of be the norm with Ben.

I hope but one other aspect is that he hasn't had Div 1 players yet that have success and can be offered or poached for $$$$$. His first year they followed but pretty much all but Stirtz would not have been offered a big bag. I think they were just happy to play at the Div 1 level. Now, Stirz and Bennett obviously have a great player/coach relationship, so Ben was pretty fortunate there. I suspect Bennett prob had some legit offers.

I don’t think it will be a ton either, and maybe it will be none, but it’s pretty rare that a whole squad stays together. I just wouldn’t be surprised because stranger things have happened. Someone might get paid more somewhere else and that could be the deciding factor for them. I don’t think anyone on this team is pro caliber at all other than obviously Stirtz.

I just get the feeling that Ben and his program is a big culture and retain kind of place that people go to play for him vs. the school. That might be wishful thinking, but I feel like Ben is the reason Iowa is good, not Iowa right? So, players want to play for him not the jersey or even the paycheck. I also don't think Ben needs the 4 and 5 star kids to be successful at Iowa. He's already proven that, so he's likely going to continue doing more with less. He's also very selective in "personality" and culture fit kids. I bet Iowa's attrition is again, not 100% fallible, but pretty good and way above the college norm. I bet most who leave will leave because they aren't playing.

A lot of McCollum's success over the years would seem to be finding players undervalued by the market.
Now, other teams will probably increasingly recognize that and make offers to guys on Iowa's roster. At the same time, how many teams are really going to throw money at guys like Combs (as one example)? Anything can happen in this new era, but I think there are some advantages to the type of player McCollum is looking for and how those players are used in the system.
Look at Hausen. Iowa completely tanked his free agent value (if he had another year to use). And until Sunday, McCollum also tanked Folgueiras' value. That dude is getting $1.5M this season. Before Sunday, I doubt he could have gotten anywhere close to that for next year. (And maybe still wouldn't if he were to leave).
Iowa probably won't be a great destination for a lot of guys looking to increase their value in the marketplace. There is a really good chance a guy will come in, struggle to play at the elite level required, come off the bench, and average like 6 points a game.
The flip side on all this - and I sort of recall InGoodCo and I advocating for this last year - is that an energized fan/donor base may very well raise the payroll.
Some on here thought it would make no difference if Iowa changed coaches because we were stuck based on payroll. But what was unclear - and is still TBD - is how much a re-energized program may lead to a greater payroll.

Yeah, according to an interview I read with Stirtz's dad, he had much bigger offers to go elsewhere. He just isn't the type of guy that was concerned about the money. Kind of to the point InGoodCo made, a lot of these guys are and will be loyal to BMC.

Also, keep in mind that Iowa has essentially rocked a 8 man rotation this year. I don't know that Ben is ever going to go much further than that. So Iowa is paying their top 8 to 9 players and using the rest of the spots for development. Iowa's roster and NIL situation will not be like most IMO. Iowa gets 15 scholly's, I don't think they need more than 10 to be successful, obviously, they will, but gotta look at it differently then say... Florida or Michigan

That's a couple games. Gotta look at the big picture. Again, they are one of the more young teams playing. I could go back and find many games Bluder's teams prob choaked, see Creighton.
She had Iowa ranked 7th with a young team & playing to get into the Sweet 16. She had 20+ wins her first season. Future is looking brighter than dimmer. All I'm saying.
