Payton Sandfort on his pro career getting started, Josh Dix playing through tragedy, and Pryce Sandfort playing great at Nebraska

Really happy for Payton. He sacrificed more than most players would for the Black & Gold. I hope fans remember him for that, and the competitive spirit he brought every night.

Payton Sandfort would probably go down as one of many folk's all-time favorite Hawks in a different situation. Guy gutted it out with two shoulders needing surgery and a broken wrist. It would have been awesome to see him as a 5th year senior on this year's team.

Nice to see Hlas teaming up with Harty, too. That's a rough business - I like to see the old guys sticking around on their terms and still being involved with local coverage.

What did he "sacrifice"?
Like Swirlin said, played with two bad shoulders and a broken wrist...which happened early in the season. He had the option of shutting it down, getting surgery, and preparing for the NBA. Instead, he chose to play his guts out night in and night out the entire season -- all for nothing but the team and the UI. I don't know if he got the Chris Street award last season, but he sure should have.

I have it on pretty good authority that the parents of the Sandforts were not happy with Iowa basketball’s treatment of Payton and also with lack of playing time for Pryce.

I am curious, did they even listen to McCollum? Besides a few staff all the old regime were gone so were they just so pissed there was no chance of rebuilding the relationship?

I have no insight on that issue.
At the time Fran got axed almost every player was pissed off about how it went down and jumped ship pretty quick. I doubt there was much of a chance for BMC to make a plug to these guys because between those players being disgruntled and giving Iowa the finger shortly after FM leaving and the time between the new hire they likely had plans and NIL settled.

Payton's quote from the article:
"My family was really close with Fred (Nebraska Coach Fred Hoiberg), which was huge in the decision, and I’ve got all sorts of family littered throughout Nebraska, especially in Lincoln. It’s been really cool for so much of our family to really be able to watch him play."

If they already had a close, first-name relationship with Hoiberg -- all money things being equal -- that explains a lot. Can't fault the kid, and he obviously is thriving.

pryce sandfort eats boneless wings with ketchup.
The kid from IN who played on a BT championship team, great outside shooter, supposed to live on some high protein cereal like Frosted Flakes, better the wings with ketchup........

I don't know Ma and Pa Sandfort, they might be lovely people. But don't they reside in Waukee? Isn't that one of those new fancy suburbs that Iowa never really had back in my day?

I live in a suburb of a big city. My 11 year old plays on a "select" basketball team. Three sets of the parents strongly dislike the coach due to playing time (and their kids play plenty). Suburban basketball parents are the absolute f*cking worst. Again, no offense to Ma and Pa Sandfort. It boggles my mind any parent gets stressed over playing time once their kid is off to college though.

As far as any mistreatment of Peyton, I'm pretty sure he was all in on wanting to play last year. No coach has ever accused Fran of pushing them out there when they weren't willing or didn't think they could go. Peyton LOVED playing for Fran and has said so many times in the last year.
